If only we hadn’t been totally bottlejob wankers on that last day of the season.

Yes, i don't like all this "woe is us" feeling hard done by. It's our own fault we're not in the CL. We had it in our own hands and monumentally bottled it.

Whilst I agree, we absolutely shat the bed, it wouldn't really make any difference to our position right now.

I like many others feel totally fed up with modern football. Feel this could well be last as ST holder as year by year it’s becoming more pointless. All summer long discussing finances, amortisation etc / more so than ever focus is on stuff off field and stuff for board room

Find going down grassroots far more enjoyable these days

Sad, but the modern game is crap and a closed super league in all but name. We won’t ever be able to build revenues and sustain them to match the cartel lot. So if that’s going to be measure of our aspirations year on year / frankly can’t be bothered

Also more generally we can’t have a strategy that is reliant on Champions League revenue.

There is nothing wrong on financial controls on a conceptual level.

If there were no controls, Newcastle would be becoming the next Man City right now, imagine watching that happen.

Someone needs to stop clubs getting into loads of debt because based on years gone by, the clubs can’t often help themselves.

The problem is, the way it is currently set up seems to stop clubs from competing at the top level consistently whilst also having the frankly absurd side effect of making selling your home grown players more appealing- how nuts is that?

So how should it be set up so as to curb excesses but encourage clubs to grow?

I don’t know the answer to that.

It’s a bit like VAR - perfectly good idea but with dreadful implementation.
100%

Yup. It's rubbish, but it's tricky to come up with a fairer way. And this way is preferable to playing a game of "who has the richest owner" Top Trumps.

We all agree but here’s the thing, we think UEFA and PL have been bought off by the Sky 6/ super league but if they are that desperate for money why wouldn they let the richest countries in the world give them the money they so desire?

I've no doubt that some people think that. I don't.

I don't think they have to buy them off. It's obvious they're the main selling point of European football.

Who did Man U get in the draw? Oh, they're not in it. But they can outspend us forever because they were good in the nineties.

Something isn’t quite right, surely debt must come into the equation but it seems it doesn’t which then looks wrong. It really doesn’t make sense and it’s very frustrating.

Yes. Debt should be factored into the Financial controls, if I really is about stopping clubs from spending beyond their means.

Yeah seems odd that you can incur £1bn of debt to build a ground, and the debt not count, but the windfall for turnover do for the bigger ground.

This is probably what’s causing all the worries that there is something more sinister going on, but it’s probably just stupid rules, very much like new rules in the game to accommodate VAR. Rules made up by idiots.
