Asensio on September 1st as it saves us money we can ill afford.

I hope he’s paying his own flight over. Would save a few hundred quid.

The Ryanair Paris Beauvais to Brum arrived at 15.45. We'll soon hear if he was on it.

I hope his cabin bag wasn't too big.

Won't be an issue, there are few better than Marco at finding space.

The horrible juxtaposition of this years CL draw happening as we struggle to sign anyone with three days to go.

If only we hadn’t been totally bottlejob wankers on that last day of the season.

There is nothing wrong on financial controls on a conceptual level.

If there were no controls, Newcastle would be becoming the next Man City right now, imagine watching that happen.

Someone needs to stop clubs getting into loads of debt because based on years gone by, the clubs can’t often help themselves.

The problem is, the way it is currently set up seems to stop clubs from competing at the top level consistently whilst also having the frankly absurd side effect of making selling your home grown players more appealing- how nuts is that?

So how should it be set up so as to curb excesses but encourage clubs to grow?

I don’t know the answer to that.

It’s a bit like VAR - perfectly good idea but with dreadful implementation.

Although as others have pointed out, because it’s dreadful for us and Newcastle, doesn’t stop it being great for clubs below us. Which is why the vote amongst clubs to loosen rules was supported by nothing like a majority.

BREAKING: A Bola are reporting that Ninguém from Sporting is flying into Birmingham for a medical at Bodymoor Heath.

*checks to see if Sporting have a Roberto Odenkirk on their books*

My great fear is that we will be the only Premier League club impacted by this, i.e. they will change the rules in the middle of this season so Newcastle, Forest et al will be allowed their spends but we'll have to stick with our restrictions because we've already made the deal with UEFA.

Mine is similar - i.e. that our resurgance - amazing manager, owner, players and set up is stopped by this Finance stuff - only for it to be losened only after Unai's left, or our managers have sold up or we be set back 3 years (which to be honest the squad is noticeably worse than Unai first full season).

Yup. It's rubbish, but it's tricky to come up with a fairer way. And this way is preferable to playing a game of "who has the richest owner" Top Trumps.

You’d honestly prefer it to just be which oil state or rogue nation can throw the most bloodwashing money at a club?

I would ban state ownership. But I would prefer every club to think they have a chance of competing than to have a permanent cartel.

My own thoughts are that all this is to get the ESL by the back door, by making major European leagues so hard to be competitive in that we'll wave the clubs off in the interests of "fairness".
