If we are at total rebuild phase, having been so close to being a proper contender, is classic Villa.

Last summer was the time to really take things up a level if we really wanted to properly compete.  We were on an upwards trajectory with Champions League football awaiting.  That was the time to invest, but we obviously weren't able to.  Someone else was holding the gun that shot us in the foot this time, not ourselves though.

Yes indeed.  You can’t blame the owners at all and that hasn’t been the case over the years.

Watching Arsenal yesterday was properly depressing.  I felt like I used to a few years ago when Villa were effectively playing in a different league.

Yes and another thing with Arsenal they have all these quality 15 and 18 year olds on their bench, when was the last time we had kids who looked like they could make such an impact.

Yep.  I’m probably being a bit of a ‘doom monger’ but it all feels very flat and at odds with the optimism other clubs who’ve been able to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on new players.  I think it’s likely we will see another 1st team player, maybe 2, leave the club. What happens over the next week or so is going to be massive for Emery’s Villa.

If we don’t bring 3 quality players in then we are going to be bang in trouble

Clear we are now at a total rebuild stage and refresh needed

Too many don’t have long term futures (even short term if offers were good)
Emi, Watkins

For me and I’ve said for a long time. It’s the lack of defensive improvements that’s frankly boiling my piss now.

RB we’ve need a huge upgrade for years and years.
Centre back - desperate for a physical, dominant CB with pace (Mings and Pau are not good enough imo)

Then looking further forward. Our lack of pace is huge issue. 100% cannot accept or stand Unai choosing McGinn as a RM or LM ever again
Agree with this and I am assuming that we need to sell 2 established players if the refresh is to start now.

I still think Martinez might be off, interesting how he has been kept in the shadows all Summer away from interviews, kit launches etc.

Sell Onana and Torres before anyone else if there are buyers.

I think we have to integrate some of our players a little bit quicker and wonder whether the players we might be targeting won’t be oven ready for awhile.

I'm surprised at some of the talk at the moment...sell players, refresh, doomed, sell, get rid etc.
We are light years away from where we were in the Championship and are in our third season of European football. We have an England striker, PFA YPotY, one of the worlds top goalkeepers and many other very good players, the best manager we've had for 40+ years, the best u18 squad last season, lots of potential out on loan...

We've had two poor games. It won't continue.

Jackson would be good but he feels like this window's Joao Felix, someone Emery really wants from Chelsea but the deal is 'complicated' and he is wanted by other teams, who inevitably we won't get and it will be too late to sign anyone else.

We need to replace Diego Carlos, as bad as he was he would have been better yesterday than Mings + Torres. If the replacement could be a new first choice right back who can cover Konsa if needed that would be ideal.

RB/CB
RW with pace
Asensio

Would be my priority order.

This window has been handled extremely poorly. There is no way we should be entering the last few days and a couple of bad games in in the position we are in with so much uncertainty and everything unsettled. Monchi and Vidagany have been totally off the ball in the prep and planning. I already have massive doubts over this Monchi bloke, he's doing nothing to quell them.

I think my issue is the lack of targeting players like Rogers, the £10-15m potential players, in forward areas, that could make a huge difference. Guessand is a couple of years beyond that, but with our lack of pace, power and invention, I do wonder how and what we are scouting.

What was the overall plan for the window? We have 7 days left and no one knows who is coming or going. They can analyse what's gone on and give an explanation for this total cluster fuck. Monchi piggy backing on Emery's success and not giving him the tools he needs. No players signed permanently to improve the team for 19 months.

FFP/PSR are shitty but the rules are the rules.

We are fighting the 6 with one hand tied behind our back, but with the money we do spend we seem to waste a fair bit of it.

I suppose the issue is if we’re under such financial constraints and we’re basically open to offers for any player we can’t do the business we want until we know how much is in the kitty without breaking the rules. While we’re waiting perhaps a lot of the top choice targets have moved on and you’re down to the players who aren’t going to improve us to the same extent.

I still believe we’ll get a few in on loan, at least, before the window slams shut. Asensio, Disasi and Garnacho, something like that.
