Asensio is a signing you can afford to do if you are a utd or chelsea spending side.

If you are like us its another expensive  gamble. 30 year old 3 year contract who looked very average  towards the end of season.

I would rather go for players of the guessard  mould. Cheapish and at a good age

We’re at risk of getting wrapped up in tropes/cliches. We do need pace, but it doesn’t mean that someone who offers other attributes should be ignored. Asensio tailed off a bit - but he was outstanding against Spurs at the end of the season. We have very little magic, or players who create space through their movement - he is elite at that. He’s also a brilliant finisher. We don’t want to sign loads of players in their 30s (or approaching), but it doesn’t mean the right one of high class should be ignored.

Guessand is the pacy signing, isn't he? You also need someone to play passes in front of the pacy players. Like Asensio.

Edit: or what the poster above me said 🙂

What worries me os the 3 year contract and no doubt his wages wont be cheap.  If it was a loan im on board but a 3 year contract could be  a expensive mistake that will fuck us on SCR

Well if it were a three year contract I would imagine the wages would be “watered down” accordingly. We’re clearly pretty tuned into what we can or cannot do. It might be a mistake, but there’s enough in his game (and it’s not reliant on pace, which is conversely pretty important) to suggest it wouldn’t.

Another one out of the door, I would guess Bailey must be off this week as well. So two more in hopefully?

Wasn't Dendoncker signed at the end of that massive panic week along with the big Southampton donkey centre back?

He’s not 30 until January. He was knackered like many players last season but is currently playing in a league that isn’t as physical. Once he’s up to speed, he will be fine. We have Guessand, Malen for pace. He’s not expensive as we will be paying around 12mill. He’s not a gamble as we already know what he can do. He’s a clever player.

Yup and also has elite level class, which is something we very obviously need.

Turning your nose up at Asensio really boggles the mind. We need quality bodies through the door and fast. Getting him back is a no brainer for me.

With all due respect, I don't think it is a "no-brainer". We've been stung very badly during the past decade or so handing out highly-paid lengthy contracts to players who make a bright start only to go off the boil and we can't then move them on.  Look at the issues we have just had with Coutinho.

I think there was enough evidence last season that as good as he was at times, Asensio could follow that template.  Would certainly consider him on loan for another year though.

Trossard + Asensio + a world class RB/CB ::) and we're top 4.
