There are times when our keeper has to kick it long, Tammy would have a chance of keeping possession, that isn't the case with Malen.
Holding the ball in general play,Tammy.Better passer,Malen.
Pressing, tackling and set pieces in both boxes,Tammy.
A loss of pace if we sign Tammy,I can't remember many occasions when Malen has broke clear of a defence and scored. No difference.
Better in the air,Tammy, better finisher in the box,Malen.
The PSR gain would be a bonus but should not be an influence in deciding who is a better replacement for Ollie when he is not available. My choice would be Tammy.

Agreed, Malen is direct but not particularly quick. Nowhere near Rashford's level anyway. Ever since Emery came in Watkins has been doing less running around. More mobile than Tammy sure but from memory Tammy's hold up play and touch were sharp. Touch of nostalgia perhaps bringing back a former player but as Watkins backup I think he could be very effective.

If he is on big money (as reported) then i can see why we would try and move him on. He is never going to be a regular starter while Watkins is around, and is usually rubbish when he starts games. He can't be much good o the wing, as Emery picks Guessand ahead of him there, and is not good cover for Watkins as his game is too different and te system has to shift to suit him. Good performer when coming on as a sub, but a lot of wage taken up on a fringe player.

I'd have loved us to have kept Assensio and Rashford - but not getting CL cost us that one

🚨 Donyell Malen to Roma —  €2m loan fee, with a mandatory clause set at €25m in case Roma qualifies for any European competition next season.

5th place Roma (3 teams on 39 points, 1 on 40) are 5 points clear of Como in 6th so they should be getting a European place.

This just seems absolutely absurd to me. Especially if the replacement is Abraham.

Malen out, Abraham plus one amazing first team attacker in, and I'm happy enogh.

Malen out, Abraham in, not so much.

Malen out, nobody in, I would be quite peeved.

Honestly that's a poor move that weakens us, unless the player himself was fed up with not having regular starts and wanted to get away.

I think the reports make sense, he wants more starts with the WC coming up fast, we wont stand in his way given he's one of the top earners and we need to free up the wages for someone coming in. Seems we weren't actively looking to sell but he's not an 'untouchable.

I must say, it might just be his natural disposition, but he and his family never exactly looked overjoyed to be here.

Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe the current, actually-existing Tammy is a different type of player to the one I remember. But this really doesn't seem to me a swap that would improve our actual weaknesses.

I think he is. He’s bigger and stronger for one. More mature as a 28 year old who’s now experienced different European leagues. Played at big clubs, did pretty well in his first year at Milan. Has PL experience, best year he scored 15 goals. He’s going to be very happy coming back to us and that will help him settle in. And Villa fans will have fond memories of his time here. But it’s not all nostalgia. He’s probably just a better fit for what Emery wants than Malen is who has felt square peg round hole most of the time he’s been with us. And in a WC year, Malen like Conor Gallagher he probably wants to be starting somewhere to ensure he’s picked for his country. So it just might be a better deal for all concerned.
