If we are the CL next season there are fewer opportunities to rotate like we have done in the EL this season. We probably need 4 quality players to come into the squad - assuming we lose no one that is currently first choice.

To miss out on Champions League we'd have to lose to Liverpool, Man City and Freiburg. Bournemouth would need 4 pts from Man City and Forest or Brighton 6 from Leeds and Man Utd.

5 results all need to go against us. If we fuck this up from here it would be a disaster. Namely because we'd be losing another cup final.

This is the only positive. For those of us who like an emotional hedge bet, there is very big money to be made on that combination. Get in now before we lose to Liverpool

The worry now is we can't 'do a Spurs' against Liverpool so we will have to risk injuries and tiredness which then impacts our chances v Freiberg. I think Bournemouth will beat City so the pressure on the Final will be off the scale. I really can't believe we have left ourselves in this situation.

We won't have Thursday games though which will help with recovery.

It would be the same wouldn’t it? We would play Wednesday/Saturday vs Thursday/Sunday.

It's a European final. You can't get more pressure than that.

If we were good enough to have top five wrapped up with two games to go we'd probably be good enough to have a go at the title. But we aren't so we'll have to make the best of one of these two opportunities. I'm personally not arsed if we finish seventh as long as we win the cup.

It would be more staggered and less definitive. We'd still have plenty of Sunday games (and Tues evening ones) with a mixture of 3 and 4 night sleeps. This season it's always been just the 3 sleeps.

It’s actually both. Oh exciting two trophies for the price of one.

I get the young players being good enough to blood etc but when you see the impact or lack of the likes of Sancho, Guessand, Elliot, Bailey and Doug have had and the money that we’ve wasted it’s not inconceivable that players that we already owned could have done just as good a job.

We spunked £15/20m on 2 teenagers one of which can’t even play in the country for a few years. Would we have been better keeping our powder dry and going for a player a bit further along with his development. Tanswell reckons we showed interest in Rayan at Bournemouth who was a bit more than the combined fee we paid for the two players.

Although Bournemouth could offer starts which we couldn't gurantee.

Yes, he would have also had to get used to our setup. Not saying he would have had the same impact with us as he’d have probably been sitting on the bench. If we’re unable to sign players of the calibre of Rashford, due primarily down to wages, who can walk straight into the team players need to be trusted more. Our youth products will get a lot more leeway with the fans, Hemmings came in for a half and then was never seen again but Doug comes back with a loan fee and wages and is pretty much out in the cold as well after being used initially, hindsight is wonderful isn’t it! I suppose to compound this it also benefits clubs more to sell youth products, which needs to be looked at.

if funds are going to be continuously tight then recruitment must improve.... Lindelof has been useful for a freebie. Onana and Rogers are good players, then after that - recent transfers have been shocking - who'd have thought when Emery came in that some of the Gerrard and Smith players would still be starting every week...
