Didn’t Port Vale have the entire Witton Lane and Lower North? 12,000 tickets in the days when home teams had to give up 25% of their capacity to away away fans?
We moved across to the WL upper when  it opened.
We have never had to give up our seats before.

This was 1990

We played Vale in 1990, 36k in Villa Park and then again in 2006 with only 30k there. I can't imagine with either of those there were 12000 Vale fans?

I’m pretty sure they brought 12000 in 1990. My memories are of it pissing down, Stuart Gray scoring a wonderful free kick and Port Vale fans

It is still the wettest game I have ever been to. Sat in the front row of the Trinity, we were soaked to the bone... Gray scored two almost identical free kicks, if I remember rightly.

I remember us giving the whole Witton Lane to Man U at least once.

Lower Tier

Half the lower and the whole NS. That fateful 2-3 game. I can never recall MU fans going all the way up the Holte. I'm sure that's never happened.

They had the whole original one tier Witton and the seats behind the goal in the League Cup in 1992, 10k in total. Liverpool had the same area in the FA Cup in 1988 but it was still terraced then so more like 12k.

The 1-0 when Deano scored? I was at that in the Holte. Don't recall them having the whole Witton though. I would have been right next to them in the right side of the HE.

Yes, you may not recall but they did.

They brought about 6k in 2006, embers of the O'Leary reign. Pretty noisy too.

Did Liverpool have the whole Witton that day? The 47k day but seemed a lot more. We Villa fans in the North Stand?

Hull City in 1999 ( at the time bottom of the league) had most if not all of the Witton Lane as I recall.

Ahh just realised the other reason for the change in the away fan seats is the amount of GA+ in the North Stand now. There is hardly any in the Upper Witton Lane - no doubt they will block off the front 4 or 5 rows too - as they do when Villa fans are above the away fans.

 Announcement from the FA:

Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will only be used in the 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup from the Fifth Round onwards.

It has been agreed that VAR will be utilised for every match in the Fifth Round of the competition through to the Final at Wembley Stadium, and will not be in operation for the Third and Fourth Rounds.

Cue arguments, cock-ups, recriminations and "controversy."

The Essex boys will enjoy the tight concourse up there . Assume they will sell out no problem .

Stood in The Holte for '90 (ahh). Still don't think I've attended a more purely one sided game since. We were singing Spinky, give us a wave! as the poor sod stood in front of his North Stand goal, getting drenched with not a thing to do. I remember him sprinting and shaking himself around his area on one occasion just to try and get warm and dry...

Looks like they have made it the 150th Anniversary Match. (even though its in the 151st year)

Presumably to increase the attendance?
