Well that was routine, wasn't it really?

Thought they were pretty toothless, except for the left winger, who looked quite tasty. No idea what the fuss was about for the first goal - if anything, I thought their player actually fouled Konsa, who was in possession of the ball.

Gold stars to Maatsen, Rogers (despite spurned chances - that one at the end of the first half would have been special), Carlos, Torres and Tielemans (once again).

Almost everyone else turned in a good performance.

Prayer mat out for Bailey, obviously. His head just isn't right. I'd rather see him being direct and failing than the dithering he is serving up right now.

Heartening to see Bouba and Mings on the fringes. All of that bodes well.

Priority is on maintaining focus: three points at Brugge allied to the three we'll take from Celtic should see us over the line. Then, who knows what can happen?

Because the final whistle went immediately afterwards, I'd forgotten just how good JJ's chance was at the death - it REALLY should have been 3-0.  He'll be kicking himself after that.

He actually punches the ground and pulls his shirt up over his head to yell in frustration. He knew he should have done a lot better, but then across the board we should have and if that should have been the 5th. Obviously a keeper is there to stop chances but it seems most of ours he didn't have to move for.

My brother said Emery went spare at Nanny McPhee for quite some time after they hit the post from a corner. Even got back up off the bench to bollock him a bit more. Poor bloke.
Normally what happens the gaffer give a bollocking to his underling and he then passes it down to the other staff,

The shape of Barkley's jump makes it look like the ball might have brushed his hand on the way through.

But it didn't, so all good.

The view they were checking suggested it may have brushed his arm, but after when they showed it from the other side you could see it had missed by about a foot.

It was funny as we'd been discussing handball before kick off and I was saying how stupid the absolute rule about disallowing a goal when it touches the attackers arm is, no matter what the circumstance, and if it had brushed Barkley's forearm on the way past it would have been a fine example.

That wasn’t what they were unhappy about. They thought Konsa had fouled their player in the build up (he didn’t) and that for the foul that their player got the ball (think he did).

They then did the ridiculous hand ball check after we scored.

I expect Dave thought Eye was asking about the VAR check which to be honest, so did I on first reading.

But with Konsa, neither player fouled the other. Konsa won the ball with almost a reverse pass back to Carlos and then his knees caught the player who went flying. Because of the almost right angle pass, I think their bench thought it was their player who kicked it forward and then was taken out.

Most of the moaning then was then because the second foul was given when the first non-foul wasn't. I felt that whilst their player nicked the ball, he also took out Konsa who was still favourite to win the ball until brought down.

Emery gets very little wrong but thought that was unnecessary. Do it after the game if needs be. It was real teacher summoning you to their desk stuff.

Brilliant freekick from McGinn for our goal. Perfect flight and speed on the ball. We missed a few golden chances last night, Rogers just before half time should have chipped it, Ramsey at end was a sitter really, did we have another one on one in second half?

Yes, the fuss I was referring to concerned the collision earlier in the move between Konsa and their player, Fabbian. Their manager referred to it in the post-match comments:

Quote from: Vincenzo Italiano
Their first goal was a foul on Fabbian that wasn't given.

Goes down as one of my favourite ever matches.

Had no concerns about my six year old who is an absolute football obsessive, but was a bit worried in the run-up that my 10 year old, whose usual live football experience is having the run of all four sides of the Bath City ground to piss around with her mates wouldn't be interested in sitting still and just watching, but not a bit of it. Enthralled by every minute.

The wonderment on their faces as they came up the steps and out onto the stand will stick with me for a long time.

Great game, should have been more. Can't wait to get back for Bournemouth on Saturday now.

I take it we all avoided town last night for fear of getting my hunted out?

No. We got off the bus in Livery Street, walked through the Pigeon Park to had MacDonald’s near there, walked down Corporation Street to New Street and caught the train to well-known Bloser stronghold Marston Green . Didn’t see a single bloser, just Villa and Italians.
