Athletic say we are no longer after a defender.

Utter madness.

Grossly irresponsible - my first real critique of this group.

The window needed us at the start to get a RB to cover Cash which we did. But then Cash got hurt. It only needed a CB cover if Diego left. But then he did and Mings got hurt for a couple of weeks which is seriously bad luck. I can sort of see why we don’t want to just get one in. We clearly had preferred targets and they fell through. With Mings back soon and Pau not long after, along with Bogarde we have cover but right now it’s a huge risk in terms of immediate need and timing. The forwards were improved considerably but it doesn’t help if we are having to score 3 a game to win. Shame if we can’t get a loan CB in so we will have to fight on under Mings is back and hope Pau is good soon after.

Yeah, but you simply can't let Diego go and not have a replacement in. It's madness. Konsa will need resting at RCB at some point, ideally soon.

Edit: I know Bade shafted us, still doesn't change anything.

Utter madness.

Do you not realise what this means?

There's absolutely no chance whatsoever we're playing three at the back. Rejoice.

And if someone gets injured again? Highly likely bearing in mind that we are losing a player a game at the minute.

We are playing Russian Roulette with our season...

It's a risk but I can understand it too. Even Disasi on loan wouldn't have been able to play 2 of the next 3 games, at which point you'd hope at least Mings would be back. A desperation signing in the last hours of the window could end up screwing us over in the long run, with the sustainability financial stuff.

That said I can also understand those who will think this is a huge mistake and it may well become a defining point of our season.

I just cannot fathom how anyone can watch us hammered at Tottenham team that couldn't score in normal time at Tamworth, utterly capitulate at Forest, get battered at Newcastle, fail to hold on against a woeful Brighton side, concede two goals in a matter of minutes to a Celtic player that's so bad he can't even get in the Ireland team and then make Wolverhampton poxy Wanderers look like 1960 Real Madrid for 45 minutes and think "what this team needs is fewer defenders".

I'll be utterly amazed if this doesn't completely fuck us up, any more than it already has in our recent games.

As (I think) Percy said - there must be an adequate centre half out there somewhere - another Longlet, would be more than acceptable.

We are well-stocked for the new one-at-the-back system. Stop moaning.

It’s not really bad luck - regularly playing someone who has come back from a serious injury recently is always more likely to result in injury. I’ll be honest I can’t see any excuse for a team competing in the Champions League, or in the top flight, not to have four senior centre-halves. We don’t need a perfect solution, we do need another centre-back though or it’ll likely absolutely kill us before the season is out.

Also means Mings will probably be imminently fit and Pau not far away.

Maybe that is how we rock now  3 a the the back but two are full backs  then two winger/wing backs bombing forward with some tall midfielders in the middle !!

Emery is taking it back to the 'WM' formation for our 150 years celebrations.

We needed a better CB anyway, even before we flogged Diego, and Torres and Mings both got injured. We're needing to score 2 or 3 a game to have any chance of winning.

Maybe we really have gone full Spurs and totally given up trying to defend.

Baffling.
