Oh I agree. And objectively, Felix, Asensio and Rashford behind Watkins is potentially a bloody incredible forward line with Ramsey and Rogers to weave in.

Asensio feels like a trial run with his contract only having 12 months left in the summer, Rashford God knows, Felix if we want him I've said all along just buy him for Unai and get on with it. One bright spot today was Malen looked like a centre forward to me, not a right winger, and he looked ok there, enough to mean we can at least take Ollie out the fire a bit.

Just that centre half.....

We're only allowed 2 loans, so not a chance we go for Felix now. Unless we're going to blow the lot on him and Disasi.

Isn't it 2 domestic loans? So the Asensio loan wouldn't count.

It’s going to be one, Mings should be back soon and Torres must be 3/4 weeks.

Would imagine so, but I think ideally you need 5 centre halves in the squad or four and then a midfielder or full-back who can do a job there when needed. Calum Chambers filled that role for us for a couple of seasons and had to be called upon a few times.

The injuries and selling Carlos have exposed us badly at centre half and we haven't had that Chambers type of player (or Colin Calderwood for older posters!) who can just fill in during emergencies.

Premier League clubs can register a maximum of four players on loan at any time during a season. However, there are restrictions on the number of loans from the same club or from other Premier League clubs.

Restrictions
No more than one player can be on loan from the same club
No more than two players can be on loan from other Premier League clubs
A club cannot loan out a player they acquired in the same transfer window to another Premier League club
A club can only loan one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club

Looking at the players we’ve been heavily linked with, they all seem to have been very valuable a few years ago.  Asensio was €90m a few years ago, Rashford >£100m and Felix €100m.  Disasi cost Chelsea £38m etc.  In other words, if you’re being unkind, we’re shopping in the ‘has been’ market.  Or, if you’re more of a glass half full kind, we are after proven quality.

🚨🧨 Marcus Rashford is due to have a medical at Aston Villa today —  buy option is £40m, with Villa paying 70% of his wages.
@TomCollomosse

70 % of his wages. Fucking hell villa. Thats a horrfic deal. Wouldnt be so bad if he was earning 200k a week.

Happy with the asensio loan though

You know he’s on similar wages right?

According to Ornstein we're paying all of Asensio's wages.

Which is a far worse deal than Rashford's, if one cares about such things.

Last window we got some young prospects and promptly sent them out on loan. This window we are splashing some serious money on clapped out has beens on huge wages. Uni appears to be at odds with his coaching staff and his backroom team of Monchi and Vinigardi. It all looks a shambles at the minute.

One positive is that both players, Rashford and Asensio, have something to prove as they are going into the last years of their contract. No one will want them if they flop.

Doesn’t the fact he’s gone with a long term target that they’ve tried to get in the past suggest they’re all working as one?

I know yesterday was a poor result but there’s one or two who are determined to enjoy the misery more than Mrs. Doyle right now.

I want a permanent centre half signing who can push the other centre halves, and allows us to play Konsa at right back, for certain games.

Then loan in another attacker, I’d be happy with Ascensio, Felix and even Rashford if we are only picking up a small portion of their wages.

We’ve sent Swinkels, Gauci, Barry and possibly Ned out on loan cos Unai doesn’t think they are good enough for us atm.

I’d like us to bring back Illing-Jnr and Enzo, they are playing regular football in a good league, must be better than sticking a 3rd choice keeper on the bench, but then I’ve no idea if we do have a recall on their loans.

We certainly need a centre half but why would we ever want Konsa at right back. He’s an outstanding centre half and should be no where near right back.

Maybe Bosco noticed where Konsa played in all our outstanding defensive performances over the last season-and-a-half. Just a hunch.

I too want a centre-half to allow Konsa to move to right-back in certain games. As can be seen by simply watching our games and remembering what happened in them, Konsa/Pau is pretty porous central defensive partnership. Not as good as Konsa/Mings from 22/23, or Carlos/Pau from the last season and a half. If we want Pau in, he needs a better partner.

Couldn’t disagree more to be honest. I’ve watched him numerous times at right back and he simply isn’t one. He’s also said he doesn’t want to play in that position.

It’s not an opinion. It’s football results.

Rashford has two and half left, earning £17m per year.

I'm pretty bullish on that he'll do well for us away from the Man Utd circus, but he'll be fine either way.

I agree with the problem, not the solution. Torres and Konsa together doesn't work defensively. One partnership should be Mings and Konsa, the other should be Torres and new centre half, who absolutely needs to be a defender first and foremost. Injuries and suspensions lead to this mixing around, but that's the base. If Torres and the new Martin Laursen are playing, then Konsa goes to the bench, not right back.

What I'd give for Laursen right now. Best centre half in the league at the time, with some very, very strong competition.

Maybe not the solution now. But it has proven the best solution up to now.
