This window is starting to look like it may finish up with us much weaker than we were at the start. Unforgiveable if it does pan out that way, given where we are in the CL.

A continuation of the summer window really. Our starting 11 is definitely weaker than last season. We’re going to really see in the next few days if Monchi is really any good or not.

Right now, it’s not looking great; that defender at the one club he has connections in Sevilla was a shambles and has left us playing our best midfielder at centre back. But I’m going to reserve judgement on our window once it ‘slams shut,’ although at this point, it looks like it’s going to be quietly closed back in place with not a word to be spoken about what transpired beforehand.

When they mentioned only loans in they didn’t say it was just those returning. Looks like we’ll have to settle for SIJ and Enzo!!

Yeah and it makes no sense under any scrutiny either - Badé…

But either way we need to crack the fuck on and stop wasting our time with the likes of Felix and Asensio. The former has probably stopped us getting a centre half in already.

Chelsea are not going to help us out, if they can shift their deadwood elsewhere. We're competing for the same top 5 places.

I'd take them both back in the squad right now. On fact Enzo should have been back a week ago.

Where's that young Turkish?

We should probably be concentrating on defenders anyway. If Felix is a no go then we should be getting the Disasi guy in on loan. We don't need to be scoring 3 or 4 goals a game if we'd stop conceding so many.

Reports suggested that the possibility of getting Felix was holding up the Disasi deal so you’d think that would be done fairly quickly now.

Yeah but again we’re fawning over Felix and it means it’s another game with one fit senior centre half - that is not good enough.

Got to the stage where I've given up signing an actually really good centre-half. I'd take a Longlegs or Chambers type who can stand up for a whole game without pulling a hamstring, until we get some players back.

Sorry Felix looks like he’s off to Milan.

I'm pro-Felix, but the main reason this news concerns me is less that we miss out on him, and more that it might inch us closer to the dreaded Marcus...

Jacob Tanswell of the Atheltic who covers Villa: This end-of-transfer window read is going to be crazy... (and long)

I like Jacob, he’s a nice lad, but I won’t click on Musk, thanks.

Jacob Tanswell

Emery:"The club is identifying if we can sign a ST to help us. But it's not a priority. We have some players who can play as a ST, not like Watkins but in a different task.

"The priority to sign a player, maybe a ST or a versatile player, but improving the players we have"

Unai Emery says Aston Villa’s transfer window “is not normal” as they aim to sign “two or three players” before Monday night’s deadline.

So far this month Villa’s window has been led by Monchi, president of football operations, with the club relying on close contacts and players known to him and Emery.

It is a far from ideal situation, with Ezri Konsa their only option in central defence plus replacements needed for Emiliano Buendia and Jhon Duran. Emery said:

💬 “The moment we are in this transfer window, it is not normal. But it is coming for different circumstances. We had to accept and take our decision. A few days to close the window and the club is working. We have to do something.

“But I am very happy with how they are responding. We played some matches even in the last month when players were close to leaving.

“Without Diego Carlos last week, Jaden Philogene and Jhon Duran. We were playing matches and collectively, we were getting the performances we needed. I’m very proud of them.”

Villa have been routinely pivoting in transfer targets and presently, hold an interest in several players across a number of positions, including Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Joao Felix, as well as Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain. Emery added:

💬 “Hopefully in two or three days, we can join a minimum of two or three players more with us. And as well, I’m going to be very motivated with those players to get collectively our objective.”

With Swinkels going to Bristol Rovers, surely another CB is close. I'm beginning to wonder if our PSR position is worse than we thought.
