When does the Window Slam Shut?

End of Monday is when we pack our war-chest away until the summer.

I have no idea who Asensio is, and he earns >£15m a year.  Nice. I know who Felix is, but I do't think I've ever seen him play more than 10 mins (for Chelsea).

Who would people (who know more than me) prefer?

And as if by magic….

🟣🔵 Aston Villa director Monchi also confirms Marco Asensio as a target: “João Félix & Marco Asensio? They are two similar players and Unai’s taste. Neither of them is easy”.

“One at the salary level, the other at the cost level. But yes, they are players who attract Unai”.

Yes.

In that case I'll take one Asensio, please. And some of those little gherkins.

Is Asensio any good?

Yes.

I think he'd have been a good option for the "pushing into the top half" Villa. I just look at players like Carlos Soler and Pablo Sarabia at West Ham and Wolves who have followed the same route of "Spanish internationals who did really well in Spain, weren't very good at PSG so have now been punted out to the benches of shit Premier League clubs".

Maybe Asensio bucks that trend, but I wouldn't be putting money on it.

Lot of chat about 'desire' and 'Unai's taste' there. The cheeky Monchi.

Nothing about Asensio in the last 2 years suggests he'd be a success. At least Felix has had flashes of looking good and is an age Unai can work with to bring the best from. If it is between the 2, Felix all day long please. Which means we'll end up with Asensio.

I get that, though both West Ham and Wulvz are basket cases.

He played over 100 games for Real Madrid and was certainly good for them. Don’t know about his time at PSG

Another extract from Percy in DT
“ Was it ever a choice between selling either Durán or Watkins? Was it ever that simple? Villa’s issues with profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) remain a major headache for the club, and every deal this month has been scrutinised to the last detail.

Donyell Malen, the £19.5 million capture from Borussia Dortmund, could only arrive when Jaden Philogene joined Ipswich Town for a similar amount.“

Definitely Felix. He's still only 25 and has an incredibly high ceiling, if Unai can get a tune out of him he'd be incredible. Asensio would be more of a Coutinho style signing, scored a few bangers for Madrid but possibly now past his best.
