I'd be happy enough with bogarde filling in for Carlos if it came to it

No way, he’s not ready to be one of three starting centre halves.

Agree Paul, down the spine of the pitch we don’t want to be playing unproven kids…Bogarde, Swinkels, Feeney and Smith all look to be centre halves with potential…wouldn’t fancy a couple of months with any of them as 3rd choice if we are going to pursue Champs League and finishing high on Prem.  I’m also not a huge fan of Carlos but he isn’t he isn’t awful as some seem to paint him out to be.

It would be staggeringly reckless and I can’t imagine they’re considering it without a replacement.

Indeed, absolutely fucking nuts.

If we can get £10m for Carlos we should be scouring for a half decent centre back on loan. Chelsea has a couple that they still won't play despite injuries, that could do a job possibly on loan.

If we can get £10m for Carlos then Monchi is a genius!

Though rumoured to be poised to recall Chalobah from Palace… so they don’t sound like they have surplus.

Felt that pre-season was the moment to get shot of Carlos, but it’s a bit risky now.

We’ve ‘named our price’ for Duran apparently.

https://talksport.com/football/2445385/jhon-duran-aston-villa-fee-transfer-rumours/

I can actually believe the release clause is somewhere in that region. But can’t imagine ‘can’t sign their actual players’ Barcelona would be able to stump that up.  PSG? Who knows.

If there’s genuine interest from these clubs, it’s hard to see him not having his head turned.

It almost feels inevitable that Duran will leave, maybe in this window.

Yes I know what you mean.  If we sold for a lot of money and were doing so to improve the first team somehow, I’d accept it.  But if it’s for PSR reasons…. That would feel a lot different.

Selling Duran, replacing and also improving the squad in a January window, wouldn’t be pretty damn miraculous stuff.

We’re not selling Duran in this window, it would be crazy on all fronts.

From the BBC Gossip pages
"Barcelona sporting director Deco has already met with Duran's representatives for informal talks to let the Aston Villa striker know he is on the radar of the Catalan club."
Err isn't this known as tapping up, thought this was not allowed, or is it just accepted now that it happens.

think it's very much allowed (or at least accepted now).

Absolutely no way we should be selling Duran a) for what he offers right now and b) for what he could offer in the future but if some of the really big fish come calling, it's difficult to see him not throwing his toys out the pram given he was all up for joining West Ham in the Summer...

Yep.

We wouldn’t choose to, but we might not be able to refuse
