Wish we would go for Walker-Peters with Ned going out on loan.

WP has always impressed me, gets forward well and scores the odd goal - can play on both wide positions as well.

Surely 10m would get him

He’s out of contract at the end of the season so potentially get him for less in this window, if not he’d be a definite for me in the summer.

He's out of contract in the summer and Southampton are as good as down already. So I'd be surprised if if took anything like that much.

I don't see the point of going for someone like Walker-Peters, he's the same age as Cash and about the same in terms of ability so I'm not sure what he'd add.

Exactly. He’s fine. But so is cash. If we’re buying an upgrade (and I’m not sure with our limited resources it is the top priority) then it needs to be a substantial upgrade not someone who is broadly comparable.

Anyone know the rules regarding players being cup-tied in the Champions League?

Guess it depends on whether we see Ned as the long-term right-back plan. If so, it's a case of keeping the right-back position less troublesome until he's ready.

I think it's hugely unlikely that we're going to be buying one of the few really obvious upgrades on Cash this summer. So it's either (a) two "alright" players giving us depth and competition while allowing Konsa to move back inside*, (b) really going for with Ned and using him much more.

*although as Percy is fond of reminding us, the Konsa / Torres partnership isn't without its issues.

They aren't, those rules were removed a few years back (because they make no sense once you have transfer windows and should fuck off domestically as well).

And I'd agree with this, but Cash is proving a bit unreliable with injuries and suspensions so actually getting someone similar but readily available for a relatively small fee might be a good shout, plus it also bolsters our centre back numbers by freeing up Konsa from that role.

All good points. I just don’t think we have the financial wiggle room for, what I’d class in the “nice to have” bucket rather than the “essential” bucket.

I get the point but I think I'd just rather go for someone that improves us, about the only big positive for KWP is that he'd be fairly cheap because he's nearly out of contract but that would also mean we'd probably have to make him one of the top earners at the club, and he's just not good enough to deserve that.

I imagine that everyone would prefer the best possible player, but it's very difficult to see who that player is given the competition for elite right-backs that is going to happen this summer.

The (famously reliable) internet suggests that Walker-Peters is on around £36k per week at Southampton. So even if we offered him substantially more, he wouldn't be all that troublesome given what we're paying most people in the squad.

I'd prefer Lamptey to KWP and according to TransferMarkt his contract also expires in June. Lamptey is ok, but there has to be better players out there that are both cheap and available.

Exactly.  I imagine the rule was to stop teams signing a star player once they got to a semi final or final.  The January transfer window stopped that anyway.
