I don’t contribute much to this thread but if we have any money to spend this transfer window it’s on a right back imv. I think Matty Cash is a good player but I think we can do better. In addition it means Cash becomes a back up and Nedljkovic can be sent on loan to continue his education.

I’d also be bringing Barranachea back from his loan to cover Onana and Kamara because as we saw yesterday asking Tielemans and McGinn to do that lessens us as a team elsewhere.

With Barkley, Bailey, Ramsey and Buendia we are pretty well covered in forward areas allowing Unai the ability to tweak formations and tactics and manage minutes for the rest of the season. Though with Buendia if we can do some business to move him on and upgrade that may be useful.

Agree with most of that.  I agree that RB is a priority position, not necessarily to replace Cash, but to have another option there.  That would also allow Nedeljkovic to go out on loan and get some much needed experience.

I would add a really pacy wide player as the other priority.  I know Bailey has a lot of admirers on here, but we've looked a lot better in recent weeks having players out there who haven't consistently given the ball away and broken down moves.  McGinn did well out there yesterday, but I'd still like to see a real flier out there to allow us to break really quickly and would potentially use Buendia or even Bailey as a swap.  I'd love to get Jarrod Bowen in, as I think he'd fit that role perfectly.

I said in the other football thread was watching the brentford game and even though they were poor mbeulo was really good. He was is wasted there. I would happily spend a majority of our summee budget  bringing him here.

He really could take us to the next level. Top top player

Don't think you've ever managed to get his name right though

The only problem with the right back situation is as I think Dave pointed out, some of the heavy hitters that don't have our FFP concerns will also be in that market too.

That’s a fair point and in addition further up the thread someone did a a review of top quality right backs and they seem to be few and far between. Hopefully Monchi can pull something out of the hat.

If I have a criticism of UE its that we haven't given kids enough chances. I'd stick Ned in when we are playing a more attacking game and Cash needs a game.

Then again, I doubt Rogers would have been on anyone's list of "we need a player of this type" options prior to us signing him.

You're right though, it will be very difficult, esp with PSR limits and even more so, in January.

It was a while before Cash was back in the side starting after the World Cup in 2022.

Part of that may have been due to injury IIRC. But there was also mention that as Young was familiar with the defensive formation and demands placed on him and Emery didn't want to disrupt that.

Looking at a lot of our play this year you wouldn't think there was much defensive structure at all (conceding as many as we've scored tells its own story).

But -if we sign a defender - I don't think it will be a RB or CB who comes in and is in contention for a starting spot right away.

We might ditch Diego Carlos if the offer is right and invest in a project CB. The young Spanish/Polish lad at Valencia whose name escapes me.

Agreed but if memory serves we agreed to a season long loan. Yup, June 30, 2025.

I've no idea who this is, but that's a brilliant combination for a Championship Manager regen.

I'm going to guess it's Wojciech Ballesteros.

Starting to think that taking the points deduction is a smart move
