Does the extra revenue generated from the CL games help our transfer budget at all this Jan?

Depends on our costs, but it will definitely help with planning. The club will know exactly what we can and can’t do and the level of losses that we can incur/sustain, and with higher revenue, that level will be more than if we weren’t in it.

Thing is, the year before last we lost £119m on turnover of £218m. Turnover for last season will be something like £270m, so if costs stay the same that will still be a £70m loss. Of course, player trading is all guesswork to us, but that could be either a positive or a negative. Either way, I’m pretty sure we’ll be constrained to some extent, but what we could do is gamble on signings we feel could get us into the top 4/5 and therefore CL, and do what we did this year and cover things by selling before the financial year end (June 30th).

With PSR changing this may be a moot point, but if things continued the same way I could see a club being prepared to accept a points penalty in exchange for the chance to bring in players who could allow the club to push on long-term.

Can't stand Bailey so would like Kudus at West Ham or Adringa at Brighton. Both probably out of our reach financially so maybe Semenyo at Bournemouth, Mbeumo at Brentford or Cunha at Wolves might be more realistic but still not cheap.
Another vote for Semenyo. Cracking player.

Not for me, he's great with the ball but gets very few assists and not enough goals for the amount of ball he gets in dangerous areas. He just looks to me like the sort of player we've signed a number of times in the past only for them to be disappointing before leaving for less than we paid/free a few years later.

Good player, no doubt.

But don’t see us forking out the £40-50 mill minimum it would take for just about any PL side to part with one of their better attackers this window.

If we go for a wide option this Jan - and I hope we do - it will either be a loan or Alex Moreno-style value deal from abroad.

There's also the fact that for all the excitement of this-season's-shiny-and-exciting-Premier-League-winger, that player last season was Leon Bailey.

So it feels unlikely we'll be spending tens of millions of pounds on this year's Bailey when we've got Bailey in the fridge at home.

I agree, and that's why we should go balls out for Ismail Sarr.

Someone left the Baileys out of the fridge over the summer and it's gone off.

Unai wants a right-back and a versatile attacker, but doesn’t know if PSR allows.

Minimum. They sold Caicedo for £100mil plus add-ons although that might have been the Chelsea tax as Mac Calister went for £35mil plus £20mil add ons. (I'm assuming there wasn't long on his contract either.)

MacAllister had a release clause that Liverpool met I think.

I think those are the two key positions for me this window.
