I must be mistaken but I could swear someone announced the 3.5 year deal was signed sealed and delivered should we activate the clause but may well have been mistaken.

Edit saying it out loud 3.5 years doesn't seem right unless it was the loan plus 3 years.

Yes, all those points are sound. And I'm 100% certain that there's nothing agreed that Rashford couldn't walk away from if he thought it was in his best interest to do so.

But at the very least we must have an idea, in a world where we are opting to hand Man Utd £40m, we're doing so with the prior knowledge of what the player would want in those circumstances and that it's acceptable to us.

I read in regard to a couple of loans recently that the clubs agreed salaries with the players in the event of the move turning permanent before the loan itself. Might not always be the case though.

Manchester United and Aston Villa were both ready to offer 70m euros (£58.3m) for Barcelona's Fermin Lopez in January, but the 21-year-old Spain forward was not interested in a move.

Barça thought it was highly likely that Villa's and Yanited's interest was indeed real, but they couldn't find any conclusive evidence of a bid having been made. Their executives refer to it as the Fermin paradox.

Selling the guy to Saudi is a seriously good bit of business for the money involved .

Barca's execs have got their heads in the stars.

In terms of Rashfords loan we should have learnt from the Coutinho deal to just let this 3/4 months play out and Unai & co get a handle on his personality before panicking to do a deal.  If he does well and we get him great, if he does well and we get outbid so be it, we’ll have had the short term boost this season and we move on to others.

Also, if he does so well that he gets a move to a "bigger" club, then it speaks well of us as a club that we "fixed" him and had him playing at the highest level again. Just having the likes of him and Asensio come here and hopefully thrive, is all a positive in terms of changing the opinion of us as a club that a lot of players still have, especially those from outside the UK.

I think the loan is and will be great but even if it’s successful I’d have reservations about making it permanent. Bit silly on my part but the shadow of Coutinho looms large and not convinced he was in our radar for long.

I have faith that Unai wouldn’t sanction a deal like that …Gerrard & Purslow were done up like a pair of kippers giving out a deal of that length and value

TBF, Coutinho was always a risk on a permanent because of his injury record, something that wouldn't be a threat with Rashford. If you need to have a shadow of a former player to worry about, it should be Gabby who played well until offered a new contract, then did eff-all for the club. Wasn't there one game where he had four touches of the ball in 90 mins?

Tottenham away maybe, when we turned up with a 9-0-1 formation? I remember Neville saying "he's had four touches and three of them were kick offs".

Found it, it was actually eight touches, I'm doing him a disservice.

Id say the chance of signing rashford is pretty slim to zero permanently  simply because of the wages. There is not a chance in hell we will pay him 300k a week and i dont think he will take a pay cut. At best another loan i would say but im not sure that would be a option tbh.

Also if you factor that we may not have CL next season it makes it literally  impossible with the current financial rules in place.

Right. So we can do a handful of pages on Carry On films, but we get one decent physics gag and nothing?

Well, I liked it!
