Seem to remember our Other Games thread when Newcastle were playing PSG wasn't exactly cheering Newcastle along to victory.

That was different. Its always different.

I still find it hilarious every time the cabbage throwing gets mentioned in a write up.

What was that weird chant a few years ago that was in vogue..."I don't care about X team, X team don't care about me, all I care about is AVFC" or something naff like that?!

I think that started at Arsenal away when we won 1-3 there under Lambert. Tony Moon scoring the third in a brilliant breakaway. Great day out.

It was being sung ad nauseum at Wigan the final day of the previous season.

Good little article here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/oct/02/aston-villa-lose-their-inhibitions-to-craft-victory-for-new-generation
Magic article from Liew.
Quote from: Graun
Is third in last season’s Bundesliga really a marked step up in class from fourth in the Premier League? Is Kim Min-jae really that much better than Pau Torres, is Manuel Neuer really a huge upgrade on Emi Martínez, is Harry Kane really in a different class to Ollie Watkins? Put more simply: do you play like the team fulfilling a long-held dream? Or the team that actually belongs at this level?
Amazing result. We didn't "play" that well, but we executed "the plan" to perfection.
Next challenge is to "play" well - and do to teams like this what we did to Citeh last winter at VP.

Looking at Ollie's performance and that of Duran, it's obvious thar Unai's plan was to get our centre forward one on one (or better) with a defender and for long balls to be played through their high press. The aim being to get clear and chip Neuer who loiters very close to the centre circle.

Ollie got clattered both times he was one on one with their cheating wanker. Duran got his shot off before he could be brought down.

Great analysis, planning and execution.

A goal scored as much in the analytics room and BMH as on the pitch last night.

Loads of positive comments on the multiple Villa articles match report onwards on Beeb.

Many best wishes from fans of all sorts - even some Blues and Wolves fans.

Just one of those nights where no-one could seriously begrudge us. Like the 2 x Inter games from days a long ago.

On the radio the noise at the ground was so loud from before kick off when Sutton was being interviewed right through to the end.

A night when everyone done us proud, even the national media.

Love this line:

Rogers was pretty well unplayable, a spinning machete of a player, flying into clouds of Bayern shirts and somehow emerging with the ball still at his feet.

Good enough to take on the best in Europe but much like many of the great Villa of 82, not good enough for the national side.

Scarlet for Neuer. What a fucking clown!

Reminds me of Casillias about 10 years ago when he edged towards then fell off the cliff

To be fair, England currently have ‘decent’  talent available in his position - it’s gonna be tough to displace Palmer, Bellingham, Foden in the near future, and no reflection on his talent if it takes a little more than 6 months 😁
