The only way that could have been any more perfect was if we had brought Joe Gauci on after 9 minutes

The BBC Five Live commentary of the goal is worth a listen - reminded me of listening to games in my dad’s car as a kid (back in the days when every single match wasn’t on the TV, kids). Nothing quite like radio to capture the sheer roar of the crowd:

Bailey was warming up on his own with a fitness coach before the game so I'm suspect he had an injury. Had to come on for Ramsey but it was clear he wasn't moving freely. It was like playing with 10 men. Correct decision to take him back off.

Carlos was superb.  I dont get this guy!! 😂

You just have a bad memory.

He plays unbelievable against the great sides

Ah, you’ve noticed. So you wanted him to play tonight then?

Not sure why you are trying to pick a argument tonight after such a unbelievable win.

Just enjoy the win man

Hark who’s talking - the match-thread manic depressive. I’m enjoying more than you know. Jumped straight into a taxi outside the ground having shared a wonderful night with my kids that they’ll never forget as long as they live. And really enjoying poking football illiterates about how they no doubt reacted when they saw the team that me and Unai picked.

Good to hear mate. Last night was incredible. Up there with one of the greatest nights of my life as a villa fan.it will special for all the kids who were there to experience that

Just got up, I can’t believe we beat the 12 players of Bayern.

The officials are no better than the premier league.

Absolutely.  We won, and it won’t get much press, but jeez - awful refereeing.

Anyway, where’s my voice gone???

I think it might have been Chris Sutton who commented that we gad to fight a rearguard action most of the match. He must be off his tits.

He looked disappointed but I was impressed by his attitude to it. He greeted his replacement and went calmly. The Bailey of a couple of years ago would have stropped. This says a lot about his development and our development (we have become a place where players are happy to be part of a squad) but also likely does indicate that he knows he is not fully fit.

I can’t think of a word strong enough to describe that performance last night.
Elite. Magnificent. Magical. Perfect?

All I know is that I am incredibly proud of the team, the club, the manager and the fans.
It was incredible night.

Absolute prise to Carlos who was my MOTM. I really don’t rate him, but he was  absolutely brilliant last night. Why can’t he be like that all the time?

Finally, a word on the stadium.
Villa Park was absolutely stunning.

The pre match build up, the lights, the  new strip lighting, the music , the flag, the noise.
It was breathtaking and a credit to every single person connected with Aston Villa.

There is no better place to watch football, than our cathedral.
We are the envy of so many.

Just watching on TV the stadium somehow did seem 'different'. Not sure if the CL have their own teams to dress the stadium, but it just looked another level.

And now for the morning after, with a smile the Cheshire cat couldn't manage on it's best day that will carry us through the working day!
