Stop talking us down.

Our form this season is:

P8 W6 D1 L1

Currently sitting 2 points off the top of the Premier League. We won our first Champions League game 0-3. We progressed in the League Cup with our B team.

We have one of the most successful managers in European Club football in charge.

We were 4th in the Premier League last season. We got to the Semi Final of a European competition.

We're Aston Villa, we're at home.

Nobody has said they expect us to win every game 5-0, that would be ridiculous. You've said you would be "pleasantly surprised" if we lost by two goals. That's ridiculous, too.

We might lose, but I can't really understand going into it like we are Halifax having drawn Man City away in the cup. We beat Arsenal and Man City and drew with Liverpool at home, last season, and finished fourth. We are currently fifth, so hardly a catastrophic decline. Who knows, maybe it will be fun.

It's certainly a lot more exciting than wondering whether we could keep up with Bristol City and Millwall, like a few years ago.

Even if we do lose, I can't wait.

Looking on their forums they see us as a bit of a curiosity. They seem a bit concerned about Watkins but don't really mention anyone other than Martinez.

Do they have anyone who remembers '82 and is still grumpy about it or are they all nouvea-yanitedy fans?
A few mentions of 82, but they have been in so many CL finals since it's just another final to them. Like fans of other massive clubs, they are generally too wrapped up in themselves to bother about us.

The 1999 final stings them a thousand times more. Let's face it half of the U.K was in mourning the whole of that summer after Man. United fluked those last few minutes!

Let's also remember Unai beat many of this team a few seasons back with Villareal. Over two legs. He'll have a good tactical plan ready for this game don't worry, just up to the players to be brave and execute it.

Can you imagine Slippy or Bruce in charge of us v this type of opponent. We genuinely wouldn't cross the halfway line all night so this is where it's brilliant to have a been there and done it well class manager in this competition as tomorrow won't faze Emery at all.

2012 must hurt as well, battered Chelsea in their home stadium for 120 mins and managed to lose on penalties. That also left the UK unhappy.

No-one is talking Villa down, they just think it will be tough against a side like Bayern, and it will. No result would surprise me.

Forgot that one. Chelsea had endless ridiculous luck in that run, Messi missed a penalty when Barca were 2-1 up in the SF. Think Robben then missed a penalty in extra time of that final.

So yes 1982 fades into insignificance a bit from their POV given they've won it 2-3 times since.

I just hope we don't get embarrassed. Our inability to defend (why we didn't make RB a priority in the summer I will never know) is going to cost us here.

I'm not sure what the score wil be but I will pleasantly surprised if we still have a positive GD at 10pm.

Our defending does need to improve, I’ve been quite vocal on that too, but blimey that’s a real glass empty position. We might lose, but we can absolutely win and any defeat will be disappointing.

Of course we "can" win. That can be said for any game we play. However it's not just about our poor defence, it's their frighteningly good attack that I fear creates a big mismatch on this occassion. I hope I'm wrong but I think we wil need to score at least 4 to win this and I just can't see that happening. I will watch on in hope, rather than expectation.

Yeah but that’s not quite the same as saying you’ll be pleasantly surprised if we don’t take a hiding. I think it’s a bloody tough game, but I’ll still be frustrated if we lose, particularly if it’s comfortably.

They press high, and that is when we are at our best and our worst.

My usual prediction for a good while now: both teams will score, it will not be boring.

What I meant is that I will be surprised if their phenomenal attack don't score a few goals against our defence, given what I have seen so far this season. I don't think that is outlandish and I will be happy to be proven wrong. Kane being out would definitely help. As would scoring a few ourselves of course.

Like I say, I expect to lose this one but of course, will be hoping for a better result.
