It was meant to be a silence and that was announced over the pa but the crowd were already applauding. So that's what it became.
They announced at 2 when they played the tribute that the family wanted a minutes silence. However a combination of the build up to the teams coming on the pitch and the PA announcer completely using the wrong tone meant there was a lot of noise. The referee then didn’t follow the instructions to blow his whistle.A bit crap really and could have been done a lot more professionally!

I didn’t know that but if it was what the family wanted, it’s pretty poor from the club not to ensure that was respected. It only needed to be put on the big screens beforehand to make sure it was communicated clearly. The PA announcer is not very good at the best of times.
There was no way a minute's silence would have worked yesterday.
