So Newcastle are closer to Tottenham than Tottenham are to us but it’s all about Tottenham with the chance of the CL.

Yeah why wouldn't it be? Tottenham are closer to 4th than Newcastle are.

Because based on the stats there’s more chance of Newcastle catching spurs than spurs catching us.

One thing I will say is Brighton have played a lot of games and have a lot of injuries too. We allowed them to build up confidence because we were so passive. We got what we deserved in this one.
Yes, you could see that Brighton were tentative in the first half and we handed them some confidence which they didn't have.

Bottom line is that our paper thin squad has done us in recent games.  I guarantee that if Unai had had a full squad to pick from all season, not only would top 4 be in the bag but we would have been looking at a historic double
The good news is that’s it’s only going to get better
Well said I like that. We need positivity now all round. The club. The players. US the fans. Everyone connected with Aston Villa football club. There's one or two on H&V who could do with a bit more of that  ;)

A real shame after such a herculean effort this season that we're now barely crawling to the finish line.  Losing on Thursday and pretty clear today that's knocked the stuffing out of Emery and the players.  Wouldn't bet on us scoring another point this season

Well yeah but it’s a less interesting thing to catch neutrals with isn’t it? If the gap between 1st and 2nd was 5 points, and between 2nd and 3rd was three points and the team in 2nd was playing they’d be talking about chances of the title not finishing 3rd.

So I missed all the game and only know the result. Not read any of the thread.
What’s the general feeling, deserved result?

True but they didn't play Thursday night or any recent Thursdays.

This is it, we've had horrendous injury problems this season AND a massively extended season, too, yet we're still currently 4th.

We're mentally fucked and really struggling. It's not good being in this situation, but it is totally understandable.

There is definitely a "what could have been" if the full squad was available for most of the season, but we also know the situation we have now and somebody as tactical as Emery should have been able to work out the best way though the recent games. I'm not sure what Cash would have been like against Adinga but it couldn't have been any worse then Konsa. I'm not sure how Tim would have played in the middle, but it couldn't have been any worse then McGinn and Luiz. And as for the attack, yes we lost Rogers early on (was his the only shot on target we had?) but maybe he could have looked at Kellyman or even Duran then. But if not, why wait until the 73rd minute to actually make an attacking change which turned out to be Duran up front when the main problem was the passing to the front players?

Yep we deserved nothing and Olsen stopped it being worse.

It was written before the game. Brighton dreadful of late. We've got the better of them in recent times too, really had their number. Thus, a Brighton win banker and they looked like a side devoid of cutting edge for most of the game. We almost had to gift it to them with a poor penalty.

I'm at the moment because after the Arsenal game we've looked leggy. The passing is sloppy. The players are forcing balls and teammates are flat footed. It feels like at least 75% of every loose ball at the moment gets retrieved by opponents. We're really lacking sharpness. Ollie and Bailey are looking a little leggy at the moment too.

The back line is all over the place too. I felt for Olsen in the Olympiakos game because they were slicing through us. I know he should have done better on 3 of the goals but he was left 1 on 1 for two and the other was deflected, from a shot no one closed down. Today was similar but Brighton weren't quite as fluid as the Greeks and we weren't as bad.

Douglas has been below par in 2024 but really poor since returning from suspension. We've missed Tielemens a lot. McGinn is running around like a blue arsed fly trying to cover for a laboured midfield partner, but when McGinn goes into Jack Russell in the park mode and loses composure, he gives it away too many times and makes poor decisions.

We have 3-4 games left now. I really hope we get a few back to see us over the line. If Spurs pull off a surprise result against Liverpool or City I suspect we'll be in trouble. But I don't see it and it'd be pure Spursiness if they lost against Burnley. I think we'll creep over the line but having to call upon Chambers today says it all about how fucked our squad is at the moment, particularly as a few regulars look done in right now.

How come Rogers went off, did it looks serious?

They had 15 shots at goal with 8 on target, we had 1 on target (Rogers in the first 20 minutes or so I think) and a grand total of two in the match. Olsen was MOTM. So yes, I think the result was deserved and we were lucky only 1 goal was removed from our GD.

It's not clear, it's one poor performance. Stop being so weak.

Hamstring is the guess. Although he walked off, he walked straight off and we didn't have a sub ready so I would guess his last contribution this season.
