We should not be losing a 2-goal advantage against anyone at home, but especially Brentford. Sad to say that was Ezri's worst defensive performance in some time, as soon as Reguilon pushed forward he lost him every time contributing to 2 of their goals. Pau also looked rusty. I actually thought Diego did quite well and handled their physicality pretty well.

Special mention for Luiz's stupidity to get the suspending yellow.

Special special mention for the ref who only appeared to be calling things in favour of Brentford.

Weird that you say that about the ref, because I thought he gave us pretty much everything in the first half.

I thought he was just generally poor for both teams overall. I've seen worse, though.

For me the thing that stands out is that the midfield seem scared to actually take a shot at goal from distance against a deep back 10….there were times McGinn / Douglas & Teilemans were all in shooting range and predictably tried another pass….Rogers was the only one shooting!

I said this earlier at the game. The occasional shot from distance against a packed defence makes them think it can happen again the next time so one of the packed defence steps up to block, thus creating space where they would have been.

I would have thought that they’ll have been specifically coached not to shoot as the percentile of scoring VS offering possession back to the opposition is more in favour of offering possession back. Therefore, ‘find the dope’ will be in encouraged as it will be perceived to be a better means of controlling the game.

I watched some of the Arsenal game, they went 2-0 up and then stacked their defence. When i watched the Villa replay every goal Brentford got had players loose without a marker, totally unacceptable. We have to be more hard nosed and play to get the result.

This.

We were all over the place once the first went in.

I'm not a massive Carlos fan, but Torres was worse than him today. I thought he was supposed to be a calm, elegant player? He was fucking flimsy and looked like he'd never played centre half in his life.

I still like the look of us going forward when we go for it, though. All that sideways passing and patient build up, despite the rewards it's brought us, can be fucking boring at times.

We'll just have to beat Arsenal instead.

We are getting nothing from that game apart from a slap down.

I’m not A Carlos fan either. And I know I am in a tiny minority, but haven’t been that convinced by Torres either.
I don’t think he’s a particularly good defender, is poor in the air and has no pace.
It’s widely reported how wonderful his distribution is, but I’m convinced he gives the ball away as many times as he is successful.
It’s almost like we have to believe he is the second coming of McGrath, just because everyone wants him to be.

Our best CH pairing, when fit, is Mings and Konsa.
By a country mile.

Obviously the constant surrounding him and arguing with him by Brentford did the trick because in the second half he gave them everything.

Torres looks like he is playing with an injury.

A defence that works would be nice. We ship a shocking number of goals.

We really do. I am surprised by that because my impression of UE when he joined us was of a slightly defensively minded manager that built his sides on defensive discipline. And it sort of felt that way in his first season here too.

I have been critical but in clear daylight I never expected to get where we are so quickly, I suspect that is the owners reasoning too. I looked at Man city's bench and the players they were resting, oh for that luxury.
Not sure how Emerys going to handle the squad, we are undermanned for sure with limited options.

Our midfield is part of the problem and we are missing Kamara as he is excellent at covering space, intercepting and being available to receive and play the ball.

When is Cash back? Next week by any chance? Don't fancy Konsa against Saka.
Martinelli or Trossard ...

He could have given them a pen after 30 seconds after that Bailey lunge on Regillon. I've seen them given . He was a shaky ref but aren't they all these days .

The amount of times he lower them to surround and badger him in the first half without doing anything was alarming. Even when he gave them the decision they deminstrated, they are a horrible outfit and the ref needed to be a lot stronger.
