Sometimes we need reminding that we're still the Villa. From Boxing Day onwards those reminders have been coming with increased frequency.
We've been shaky / erratic ever since that Sheffield Utd game (1-1)

We have been losing players for several matches at a time since then so any wonder? We didn't have Torres or Kamara in that one for example.

Looking back, it was the Brentford away match (Brentford again FFS) that started chipping away at the foundations we'd built up. Torres gets injured (an injury he seemingly still hasn't fully recovered from) and Kamara gets suspended for key games at the turn of the year.

We haven't been right since.

The idea is that we don't play like that again.

I like that idea.

I do hope this coefficient thing that gets top 5 into the CL isn’t reliant on us winning the Europa League.

Because this is Villa, I am still keeping and eye on West Ham, Newcastle and Brighton to see if they are creeping ever nearer.  Fortunately, 7th, and more Conference League, looks assured, pretty much, but any more performances like this and we will struggle for top 5.  We ship far too many simple goals, don't keep enough clean sheets, we are often not aggressive enough in the right way.  Douglas, you oaf.  We must not get cocky when 2-0 up.  Really disappointing week.  1 point, 4 scored, 7 conceded.

Mate, even with dropping 2 points today, Man United are 12 points back with 1 of their games in hand against Liverpool.

West Ham are 12 back on the same games as us with 21 worse goal difference.

Both of these teams would need to 5/7 or 6/6 games to even land on the same points as us if we win 1 more game this season and lost all the others.

Whatever happens we'll be upgrading the European competition next year.

Exactly.
Problem is we really need champions league and having been in Pole most of the season if we don't get it and get Europa where the revenue is far less it will feel like a bit of a disaster .

We don't NEED it. If we have to sell one player this summer to buy two, with Europa League football, so be it. We will improve.

The idea that the lights will turn off if we don't get CL is for the birds. Just trying to set some reasonable expectations here.

The season is long, we have done well but it's fucking tough. Form and how well we were playing in October/November doesn't give you a divine right to carry that on for another 6 months all the way to the end of the season. Unless you're Man City with 2 world class players in every position.

Spurs are not just going to win every game they play either, it'll likely go down to the last game of the season and it's still a coin toss.

1 to 11 we're a better team than Tottingham with everyone fit (not a luxury we've had this season).

But in the games I watched them recently against Brighton, Palarse and Luton at home there was sense of inevitability about them coming back when they went behind.

Relentess, chance after chance created. We couldn't nab a goal when we needed it in the closing stages and looked short of ideas. That, married with the defensive fuckeries which have dogged us in the second half of the campaign will probably do for us.

Well today we did score a goal after going behind, and we have managed to get probably as many late goals as Tottenham. The difference is it is rare for us to not win once we have gone ahead. I think this is the second match were we haven't after the Manure away which went a similar way.

Jesus, brighten up would you, it's very clearly not a disaster if we got Europa. Champ league is the target but an improvement on last year and maintaining a good European run is excellently done, especially given the injuries.

It's been an excellent season, enjoy it ffs

Hmmm. There'd be a football like symmetry to that .

Let’s hope Forest show up tomorrow at Spurs or Spurs are just themselves and find a way to fuck it up. Advantage them now.

Spurzzz will need to throw at least four of their remaining games as we're determined to piss our chances away, it seems.

I know. We are out-Spurzzing Spurs at the moment.

We really need another right back, because I don't like Konsa there. He constantly loses track of his winger because he's too focused on what's going on to his left, i.e. the place he's more used to being.

That has been the position that Unai hasn't filled in three windows so far. They cannot leave it a fourth.

Totally agree, he's a bit like Bambi on Ice at times playing RB and we should have bought cover for Cash last summer .

We def need another right back to rival the Polish Cafu.  The lad from Red Star Belgrade looks more like a long term project.

If we're shunting Konsa RB again and Diego is lining up for us at all next season the summer won't have gone too well.

I have to say the ref was absolutely woeful today he literally gave every decision to brentford. A very bias performance

I actually thought he was OK first half, made some decisions that pissed Brentford off. Then that woeful second half. It was like 'Stockley Park' literally told him to even it up during the break. Bizarre.

As others have said, shocking from Konsa, Pau in particular, and I'd add Tielemans to that second half (their quick free kick esp) - we looked a lot more solid on the right when Ginny moved back late on.

We switched off at the 2-0 goal, decided we'd already won. Not a top level mentality. I don't like the bloke, but you think of someone like Henderson when at Liverpool - no way that's allowed to happen. We're still too nice, especially without Ty. Need performances next two Thursdays - I'm expecting nothing at the Arse.

Just not good enough - regardless of going for top 4 or not, failing to win from a 2 goal lead at home to Brentford is not good enough.
