The defence is a very obvious issue but I think Emery is blind to it. We should have won the conference thing in our sleep but if you can't defend...

We've kept 4 clean sheets in our last 24 league games, that's not a record successful teams tend to have. I love attackers, and especially wingers, but we need to get the defence right.

Onana and Maatsen didn't play in most of those twenty-four. Plus we were running on empty at the end of the season, I'd imagine the attack declined similarly. Watkins stopped scoring, for starters.

We've improved our defence and defensive midfield.

We've sold loads of goals and not replaced them.

I'm not saying I wouldn't want to sign another defender. But if we could only sign one player (and zero currently looks more likely) it would be a game-changing attacker for me.

That run goes back to match 17 of last season (Arsenal 1-0 was match 16). We can't keep blaming tiredness when the defence has been pretty dodgy overall since before Christmas.

I'd love a tricky winger, I want the defence sorted most of all though.

I think I’d lean towards a right back/centre back. I don’t know if it solves the problem, but conceding is our most pressing issue. We put loads of pressure on the attack because we so rarely keep a clean sheet.

We have attempted to sort the defence though. We've spent ninety million on a left back and a defensive midfielder. More if you include Nedeljković.

We've sorted the attack by signing Philogene and binning off Zaniolo.

Check and mate.

Sadly he's the Diaby replacement. I'd forgotten about Zaniolo. If he was the Zaniolo replacent and we'd signed Madueke like I kept telling them if only they could be bothered to read my posts, I'd be happy enough. I'm not sure what Milan Baros and his pal have got to do with anything.

It can be summed up by the fact that a £15m signing from Forest three years ago and who patently hasn’t got enough strong completion is still the nailed on first choice right back.

He started fewer games last season than Diaby, so not that "nailed on". And we've signed another right back.

Look at our defending for the 3 goals conceded this season. It's a massive problem . I'd be surprised if we don't concede at Leicester.

And we scored zero goals against Arsenal and only managed two against West Ham despite spending more than half the game camped in their half.

If Matty Cash is fit he’s the first choice right back.  So what I’ve said is correct.  Which then leads us on to Konsa being moved there which makes us weaker in the middle.

Cash was good enough to get us top four. He's unfairly scapegoated, and would be first choice for half the league.

Our defence was good enough for top four and has been upgraded.

Our attack has been downgraded.

I think if Cash was identifiably the weak point, we’d have made sure he was replaced rather than adding a third left-back and banking on shifting one of the others.

So they must have a fair amount of confidence in him.
