Until we either get much more effecient at profiting from players to the tune of 40-50m per summer, or increase our commercial revenue significantly, or both, every summer feels like it will be a compromise to try and compete.

Part of our issue now is also squad spots. Clearly a different model to Chelsea who don't give a fuck. Percy reporting we are trying to shift both Diego and Donck so we can bring in the Feyenoord lad.

That would be perfect

Just need to find a couple of suckers to take them on.

Not so much Diego who can very much a job though not consistent enough at top end of table IMHO

Donk needs a slower league nowadays for me

Three signings dobbin, enzo and illing jr are not part of the squad for the season it appears as all been loaned out. Its around 20-30m for those three you would imagine. Id have rather have signed one or two that we would have been able to use in a demanding season like this.

Heck was talking about wanting to not just qualify for CL but staying there i just dont think the current squad is strong enough to maintain it this year. This was a good opportunity to attract some quality here as we can give them CL football. If we dont qualify next year then that chance is gone.

Big roll of the dice for me
PSR meant Dougie was sold. That deal was only possible with the acquisition of Enzo and Iling Jr.PSR likewise seems to prevent us from paying the wages and fees for the elite players. We've gone for very promising young players who can eventually become part of the first team squad or whose value has increased.
This is a sustainable approach, very much like Chelsea's,don't laugh, pre Boehly ,with lesser spending power, and Brighton's with bigger financial resources.

I bet Carlos & Dendonker are on massive wages between them which is likely a big part of the block.

Yep. In fairness to Chelsea they buy loads of young players and sell loads on for a profit. They’ve been doing it for years. I saw some graphic the other day on a best XI from their academy who are now playing elsewhere. It’s pretty impressive who they have acquired, developed to some degree and moved on. We are a long way from that.

I'm assuming sending them out on loan (with the wages covered by the receiving club) might free us up some under the Euro PSR on wages.

Romano is reporting that both Iling Jr and Barrenechea salaries will be covered by us.

Gosh what terrible deals then if thats true

Yeah:

Enzo Barrenechea, set to join Valencia on loan deal from Aston Villa with salary covered.

Is saying that Valencia are paying his salary.

Agreed, seems pretty clear to me. In any case, loaning players out and paying all their salary wouldn't make much sense.

Percy still saying we have to sell to buy to n get Geertruida. Selling Carlos to sign him makes so little sense considering how short we would then be at centre half in the long run. I do wonder now if it's all on the wages ratio for Europe and whether these loan deals are edging us closer to doing something.

Wages and financials aside, Carlos isn't a great fit for what Emery wants in a CB. Donk is miles removed from the technical skills he needs his CMs to have.

Yeah both can go donk and carlos. Both not emery type players. Gerrards left us with a load of players we can't shift the clown

If we can loan or sell Donk and Carlos - we may have to pay a fair chunk of the wages they are owed for the remainder of their contracts

Coutinho was the big mistake under Gerrard. I'm not sure there were many complaints on Carlos at the time we signed him, the Donk had filler vibes alright but I thought he would be useful. In fairness Kamara came in under Gerrard. It was more the coaching, tactics and man management where SG hadn't a clue!

Donk was a panic purchase and a symptom of the whole Gerrard experiment, which in total must have cost the club almost £100m (compensation, pay-offs and Coutinho/Dunk loans/transfers)
