It's insane that Chelsea, with Palmer, Sterling, Makueke, Jackson, Nkuku... Still have the wage freedom and money to drop £100m on Felix and Neto. There's a playing field, but theirs is in a very different county.
That’s what’s frustrating - is we have to keep our powder dry and basically juggle round player sales to try and strengthen where they have 2 teams

That's the way PSR works. (Current numbers based on Internet research - happy to be corrected).

Sales £85m - instant profit into the accounts

Signings £225m - some on very long term deals, but for PSR calcs, they're "capped" at 5 yrs, which gives an PSR cost this year of £45m, so they're £40m to the good.

BUT, if any of the signings don't work, then they're facing two problems:

1. Taking a hit if they sell for less than amortised value
2. Players sitting on the bench happily picking up their wages running their contracts down to get Bosmans.

Can't help but think they're storing up problems for the future.

Let's hope so!

They broke it down the other day on one of those awful transfer shows on Sky (tgat I watch admittedly), and they’d almost broke even in simple net terms.

I appreciate that not all sales are instant profit straight into the accounts.

I think a injury to palmer chelsea implode

Maybe. Or maybe they just put Nkunku there, who is also one of the best players in the world in that position.

One Best player in the world? I think thats a stretch tbh dave. Palmer is the heart beat of the team. Im almost certain they fall apart without palmer

I'm unconvinced by Nkuku, but to be fair he's one of very few at Chelsea I'm not absolutely certain would be brilliant in the right environment.

There’s an article on the bbc website about a mindfulness coach who was at Chelsea. Apparently he and loads of back room staff have been made redundant,

Their problems will be that they have the world’s biggest squad but half the coaches have been jettisoned. The ones left will be doing double time trying to keep all the players happy. Of which a third have been told they’re not needed.

A decent morale cannot be maintained in my opinion.

If we do bring somebody in it needs to NOT be another Zaniolo type punt.

I've said this before but my main worry when it seemed Felix was our main target was the idea that it would drag on too long and we'd miss out on other targets while waiting for him, and then not get him either.

We don't know exactly what went on between us and them in regards to Felix, but we were heavily linked with several players earlier in the window and they all went cold or ended up elsewhere, and now he's gone to Chelsea, and we don't seem to have anything else in the pipeline.

I think we have improved our squad from last season, to the point we have players who can't even get on the bench, but is the depth there for a European campaign, maintaining top 4, and coping with the inevitable injuries.

Last season yes. They have so many quality forwards now that Alan Pardew could get them scoring. If they can start getting tighter at the back, they're nailed on top 4.

Rogers came from nowhere, I'd rather 2 more of those signings than Felix etc . Trust the management.

I'm not saying I wanted Felix etc. just that we may have missed out on other signings, including another potential Rogers, simply because the plan was to blow our wad on Felix.

That's all speculation though.

Except for when they buy Ross Barkley, right?
