Nope. Philogene is cover. We need a Diaby replacement. If anything happens to Bailey we are in trouble.

Agreed.

I think we might come up a bit short in the forward positions if we don't get someone else. People on here mention that it might be a tough ask for Watkins and Bailey to pick up where they left off last season, personally i don't see why not but i can see their point. Duran could be great or could be a giant pain in the arse, i'm happy to see him stay but it's all a bit 'wait and see'. Philogene looks OK but it's a big step up from the championship to the champions league and Buendia is getting over a serious injury. Rogers will have a great season i reckon but it would be nice to get another quality player in.

Sterling is an interesting one and the thought crossed my mind when i read about his situation yesterday. He was certainly, not so long ago, at the level we need but he hasn't been playing more recently. Chelsea as we know have about 50 odd players, so it can't be easy there, only being flavour of the month for a limited period for most. Has he lost it or is he just one of the victims of the current Chelsea debacle? I'm 50/50. I think at a push he can play across the front line but better either left side or right side? I think we need more cover right and central really. I read speculation this morning that he's willing to drop his wages, i would have though without that it's a non starter.

Zaha, Sterling (if Chelsea pay some of his wages) or Madueke would all be good choices.

Agreed

I think a forward on loan is most likely at this stage. I like the other winger at Villareal, Pino, but I think we need a more central number 10 support striker role. Zaha on loan might work well for all if his heads right.

Or just go pay the money for Eze!

Zaha has been rubbish in Turkey & will be on big wages. Sterling is on £300k a week and on a downward (quick) spiral. Madueke is decent but we’ve got Bailey (& Philogene). If we want an attacking player it should be someone who plays more centrally

Zaha got 9 goals and 3 assists in 13 starts and 17 sub appearances for Galatasaray. That strikes me as fairly decent to be honest.

Yeah on the face of it Zaha might be a good option, as long as there aren't any issues with our current squad as mentioned a few posts ago (i think i'd heard something similar), and i'd much prefer a similar deal to the one we got Zaniolo on.

I can't help being concerned about center back too, i think Carlos might be unsettled and when he does play he's inconsistent and Mings hasn't started training yet. Even if Carlos stays it might be worth getting a player on loan with view to permanent deal who can play either side.

I guess so far Emery hasn’t brought in one of his favourites from previous clubs so maybe it’s just linkage that won’t happen in reality.
Lo Celso was all set for World Cup couple of seasons ago but was unfortunately injured and he was Argentina stand out midfield player in qualifying with performances.

Errrmmm...Pau Torres????

We need a central defender first and foremost.

Yeah, without wanting to be all "Emery can do no wrong", I'm pretty sure that if we were to bring in someone on loan like Zaha or Sterling who might seem to not fit, I'd be pretty confident that it would end up being good.

While the Lenglet / Zaniolo loans wouldn't be seen as resounding successes, there was still clear, sensible logic as to why they happened.

Stirling is one who has been around so long you'd think he was 37. Only 30 in December. A season loan would do nicely.

I think he'd do pretty well in our set up to be fair, but can't see it happening.

So moreno and illing jr likely to be going too. I think illing jr should stay but moreno can go. All it takes is digne or maatsen getting injured and we are light at lb

You could say that about any position - if someone gets injured, then we're light! Two players of similar (top) quality in each position is the gold standard and where we're nearly at for the first time in our Villa-suffering lives. Cherish it, y'know?

Chelsea might have 3 right backs or 8 goalkeepers, see how that works for them.

I get your point but illing jr can play in number of roles so i feel having him here will benefit us should a injury occur. Its likely it will happen

Why was he a sub more than a starter though?

All would expect to be first choice though and I’m not sure Unai would want that.

Me neither. Madueke I wouldn’t be against.
