Romano

EXCL: Aston Villa are closing on an agreement for 2005 born midfielder Kane Taylor from Manchester City U21.

Long term deal almost sealed between player and #AVFC after deal in place between the two clubs.

He's the replacement for Luiz. (1.01 in)

It's intriguing, I won't lie. These youthful acquisitions, in my opinion, need their own transfer thread because they have little bearing on first team 24/25. When I hear Villa sign a player and it turns out to be one of those "fattening calf" deals, I admit that I get a bit miffed. All this building up stocks and then selling them for a profit.

Damian sounded as if we were really reluctant to sell Kellyman on the Talksport interview yesterday when he was making the point about fattening-up academy prospects to meet PSR while UEFA demand we include homegrown players in our squad was all arse about tit.

Maybe Romano can start a separate Twitter account for Academy players too.

Interestingly, Man City signed him from us back in 2019 (when he was 14).  They paid us compensation at the time - see Tweet here: https://x.com/City_Chief/status/1159152625205547013

EDIT: Just noticed this has been pointed out several times earlier in the thread - doh!  We weren't in a great place in 2019, so I wonder how reluctant the sale was?

From BBC today: 'Aston Villa are working on a deal to sign 19-year-old Colombia defender Yeimar Mosquera from Orsomarso SC in his country's top flight.' (via The Athletic)

Although as far as I can tell, Orsomarso are in Div 2.

Also interesting is that it looks like he allowed his contract to run out so it's not like City didn't think he was good enough for them. It seems to be the same situation as the forward we signed from Sunderland.

He looks good from the video clip too so hopefully he'll get a season loan to a decent championship team and play regularly.

It’s got to be a positive sign that youth players are choosing to run down their contract and then join us.

Maybe but there's something unsettling about cynicism and craftiness in ones so young.

You can blame their agents if it will make you feel better.
