Could see Lo Celso happening right at the end of the window if we manage to ship players out. Spurs clearly don’t want him.

I thought he would have been odds on but we’ve now got Barkley for that role.

Barkley isn’t going to play that role I wouldn’t have thought. But either way I think we’ve got enough competitive squad options now, we need players who will improve the first team pretty much immediately. The likes of Maatsen and Onana will do that in time I suspect (so might some of the others) but I think we need a couple of players who you look at and think they clearly make the first 11 better.

It feels that in the last couple of years a new position has developed which is basically "he's not really a defensive midfielder, in that he doesn't run around and tackle and kick people, but he's pretty strong and solid, runs a bit, can pass pretty well, could probably ping in three or four per season from twenty yards but he's also not really an attacking midfielder and will also drop in at winger or full-back for five minutes if the guy who's normally there is somewhere else".

Reckon that both Barkley and Lo Celso are a version of that. And Tielemans, McGinn and Douglas Luiz as well.

Given they wouldn't let him train with the squad, he clearly wanted out, and we apparently had prioritised signing him, but it still hasn't happened, I'm assuming it's not going to happen, quite possibly for that very reason.

I heard something the other day that Chelsea are expecting a transfer embargo so are getting in players whilst they can. Looking online, it appears the story has been doing the rounds these last six months.
