Well I'm going on vacation on Thursday so just needed some clarification that's all because they'll be different player threads existing and disappearing no doubt !

I find it interesting that you're going on vacation, and not on holiday.

Looks like Barca are struggling to get Nico Williams and are looking at Danny Olmo.

It struck me earlier that, despite Luiz leaving which was a bit of a shame, this is the first season for a while that we haven't been endlessly trolled in the media about our star players leaving.  It all comes from qualifying for the CL and having brilliant manager who is obviously in this for the duration.  Had we missed out, say even by a point, we would've had much more rumour-mongering about Emery, Watkins and Martinez leaving.  Instead, we've sold two good players without really worrying too much about it, and look to be on the brink of signing better ones.  It's really quite refreshing.

The local media tried a bit.

Especially when Watkins scored that goal for England.

But overall, you are right, its been a bit more respectful.

The Birmingham Mail have always loved seeding our crises and selling our best players.

Said often on here but in no other city in this country does the biggest local newspaper treat the biggest local football club like a scabby horse to beat.

Isn’t Williams’ release clause low, relative to his ability.  Is Olmo’s even lower?

His release clause is €58 million (£48m/$63m) but his wage demands were about £300k/week.

Olmo's is £51m, but he's also 4 or 5 years older.

I've read the reason Barca aren't getting Williams is because he is sticking to his word to his brother that he would stay one more season at Bilbao.

I think the summer so far has been an interesting one.  Unless a couple of really big names come in over the next month, then I think it looks like the aim will have been to strengthen the squad overall, rather than just the starting XI.

I think that hints at a longer term strategy and it could be next year that we see some really eye-catching signings.  I think expectations might have to be adjusted accordingly, especially as I can see the 4th - 8th pack being quite tight.
