He didn't want agents phoning him to discuss transfers when he was watching Taylor Swift.

It pretty much leaves us with only Duran, KKH, JJ and 3rd keeper as our 4 club trained players for the CL squad. And Archer I suppose.

We paid Derby £600k for Kellyman. We have now sold him for approx £19m. As a young player who probably did not ask to go he will get a good share out of any deal. This model must be attractive for young players to join us, be improved and then moved on and set up for life.

What are the rules there? You have to have 4 in the squad? And how does Duran qualify?

UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21

That's the European rules. I remember discussing this a while back and I think Martinez might technically qualify? I'd have to do some sums here....

Edit -

Quote
On top of a maximum 25 players for List A, clubs had to designate a minimum 8 players that were trained by clubs from the same national league, with 4 of them being from the club's own youth system.

Never mind. Martinez qualifies as one of the 8. Need 4 that are through Villa.

25 man squad, 8 association trained players, of which at least 4 must be club trained. Actually Duran won't count.

1. Club-trained players who were on a club's books for three entire seasons (i.e. the period between the first and last official match of the relevant national championship) or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21.

2. Association-trained players who were on another club's books in the same association for three entire seasons (i.e. the period between the first and last official match of the relevant national championship) or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21.

Kellyman wouldn't have counted either as he's not here long enough.

What happens if we dont have that many?  do we have to name regardless - or do we just have a smaller squad?

He doesn't so we're only likely to annonuce a 24 man squad. However he doesn't need to be named in that.

Finlay Munroe was in and around the first team a few times last season. He looked decent the few times I saw him play. If he doesn't go out on loan, he qualifies.

Does Sinisalo figure as a home-grown player?

Nope. You need to have done at least three years before the ages of 15 and 21 and we didn't sign him until he was 19.

Edit: yes... he would have been 17. Can't count!
