Your argument is that he isn't good enough for a top four team. He clearly is because we finished top four. If he'd only played a few games you'd have a point, maybe. He was an essential part of a team that finished top four. Yes, just as Dan Burn was the year before, so I doubt many Newcastle fans were in a great rush to sell him for Matt Targett money last summer.

Lots of people have been giving Cash stick all season. I'm not one of them, but I think it's clear he's not wholly in Emery's long term plans. Duran is a maverick who looks like he might be a bit chaotic to work with, and wasn't Emery's choice to start with. I think Emery wouldn't be sad to see him go, to be honest, especially for £40m.

There were three players I saw Emery lose his mind with during the season. Duran, Luiz and Cash. I’m not surprised they’re all being linked with leaving.

And signing Gallagher, Barkley, McKennie, Iling Junior, Abraham, and others.

Who are all Europa League level. Where's the marquee names a CL side should be attracting?

Gallagher is CL level, IMO. Chelsea were one of the best teams in the country last few months, he's only 24 and going to get better.

He was an essential part of a team that finished top four. Yes, just as Dan Burn was the year before, so I doubt many Newcastle fans were in a great rush to sell him for Matt Targett money last summer.

In reverse:

we've already agreed that €15m isn't enough and so has the club;

Dan Burn is a lump who has a role in a team, but who they could and should upgrade and not just for his age;

all teams have weaknesses, and in the eyes of many Cash was a weakness. That we overcame it enough to finish top four doesn't mean that our weakness is top four level. This is like saying we have the squad depth to finish top four - well we did, once, but that doesn't mean we'd give ourselves the best chance of doing it again by not strengthening!

You have to progress to stand still in this league, and I don't think that Cash is going to be a top four EPL player consistently, long term. You can disagree, but your argument as it stands is about a millimetre wide. I suggest you think a bit less literally, old fellow.

How can he be CL level if they only finished 6th?

I think you both should have a fight about it.

I bet Michael Mosley wishes he'd done that.

I guess Monchi has put the word about that Doug, Duran and Cash are up for grabs, rather than then pushing to leave.

I’m not sure he’d get away with it.

Because he's being linked with Villa, obviously.

I'd have to a stern word with Gallagher about the holes in the backs of his socks nonsense. That's up there with man buns, 5-3-2 and darts celebrations as far as I'm concerned.
