There is no way that would be allowed, it's cheating, though I don't know specifically which rules it breaks - I just mention it to illustrate how "swaps" can be complicated from a FFP perspective.
It wouldn’t be “fair value”. The fair value assigned would need to be determined and justified in relation, for example, to recent market transactions and accepted by the auditors and the PL, I should think.

There’s a bit of leeway in that valuation since it’s subjective to a degree (and Chelsea have a bit of recent history there with the intragroup hotel sales in their latest accounts), but only within a reasonable range.

I haven’t paid much attention to Gallagher until quite recently but from what I’ve seen of him quite recently he’s been very good and I would be happy with him coming in. Especially if it’s true that Doug has decided he wants a move, a much more appropriate replacement than some of the other suggestions.

Not sure about the appropriate replacement bit. In my mind Gallagher is a completely different player to Doug.

He’s clearly not desperate to go, but for the reason above they’re not offering favourable (or any) terms on a new contract.

Interestingly (I thought, anyway) he's earning a relative pittance* at Chelsea. The contract that's ending is the one he signed for Chelsea before joining West Brom, the year before he had his breakthrough season at Palace. There will players who haven't even made their debut for Chelsea yet who are earning more than him.

So I wouldn't blame him for now wanting to be paid more like his current worth, either there or somewhere else.

*£50k per week. So very "relative"

Unai makes every player improve , Im even expecting Diaby to come really good next season.  I reckon Gallagher  would be great once Unai gets him under his spell , him and Palmer turned Chavski around last season .

I think Gallagher is really good player with lots of time to get better.

He was easily Albion's best player that year when he was very young.

Have him a heartbeat even if it means losing Duran or Luiz. We'd have to take a hit somewhere.

The 2 we mustn't let go under any circumstance is Martinez and Watkins

Given the reaction on here was pretty lukewarm when it was suggested, it's interesting that Chelsea fans seem dead against him leaving.

Wonder if he's one of those who is much better when you see him every week.

I work with a Palace fan who eulogised over him every week.

I would presume each player would have a fair market value assigned as part of the deal, and would be treated as a separate transaction: (i) Duran out, profit (loss) on sale banked; (ii) Gallagher in, assigned value amortised over 4 (say) years.

So in year one, we’d be winners in that we would bank all of the (assumed) profit on Duran but take just a quarter of Gallagher’s “cost” to income.

Obvs, there are also salaries to consider, with Gallagher’s likely to be much higher than Duran’s.

That's how I see it too.

he’s McGinn but plays at Chelsea and has been elevated in the media and by Southgate to being better than he is.  Chelsea/palace fans love his effort but the rest see his less than perfect touch.  McGinn is less heralded by their media so *most* fans see him as underrated.

I’d take him but wouldn’t bust the bank.  I certainly don’t think he fills the Kamara sized hole in our midfield.

Think he would be a massive improvement on the squad and what a statement it would set showing we can pick off the better players, even the scum 6.

Make it so.

Gallagher and Barkley would be a fabulous start

If we sign him early will he do his ACL at the Euros?

I thought a little like that but i suggest you watch his YT reel of best bits for last season, and not years ago but last season.
Very impressive, especially the 2 games against us.

Buying player who are bang in form is nice for a change

If we do sign Gallagher, can we have a stipulation that he doesn't shred his socks. He always looks like he has a moth infestation at his place.

Our own Ramsey does that too, although not to such extremes. Someone explained it on here once but you'd think it would be easier to just do like Grealish and roll the socks down.

Would we be better off with Gallagher and Barkley over Luiz? That's the question...

There's a story doing the rounds that Dybala is available for €12mil and is interested in a move to the Premier League. Don't see anything linking him to us, but we were linked the last 2 windows, I think.
