Luiz is easier to replace than Watkins. Watkins has been sensational this season, and should carry that on next, but he needs more competition and is still too streaky at times. Luiz was brilliant to Christmas then tailed off, but much of that is having to play deeper.

Replacing Kamara is pretty much number 1 priority this summer for me.

If we *had* to raise some proper money, i.e. to sell a player we don't want to lose (they're the only ones worth proper money, after all). Say, Martinez, Pau, Konsa, McGinn, Luiz, Watkins etc. I'd choose Watkins. He's at his peak in terms of performance and value and I wouldn't be that surprised if he's just enjoyed the best season of his career. And we'd get silly money.

Watkins is absolutely irreplaceable and we'd be absolutely fucked without him. And he's never ever fucking injured to boot, selling him would be probably the most idiotic thing we could do

I think SE has always had doubts about Watkins, so have I, but I agree, I think it would be mad. His work rate is perfect for Emery.

Fair fucks though Sexual, not afraid of the bold calls knowing full well most people will shoot that head popping up.

Being considered a wanker who knows nothing about football by some people typing in their bedrooms is a long way down the list of things that trigger the night terrors mate!

I'm usually using one of those little tactics boards with the red and blue magnets on while I'm taking a shit when I'm calling someone a wanker.

Erm, I presume you mean finding someone to cover him? 😉

If Watkins leaves we are 20+ goals short. It's a massive risk, gambling on getting a replacement someone to come in, hit the ground running and score 20+ goals. Obviously money talks but they'd have to smash the transfer record.
What distinguishes Watkins from the other leading strikers is the number of assists he is contributing. Look at him and Bailey and their effective output is prodigious. So, where would we get 20+ goals and 12-14 assists if Watkins goes?
I don't want any of the first-picks to leave, but Luiz would be a regrettable exiteer if we were totally cornered financially.

Let's hope nothing like this is required.

I remember when Ciaran Clark thought he had outgrown us.  How times have changed.

Carlos. Dendonker. Archer. Tim. KKH. Olsen. Chambers. Coutinho.

Wont get us what we would get for Luiz, in fact for some of those we'd have to pay people to take them off our hands. I could see the sale of Carlos costing us money under FFP.
Also those sales leave us very little cover.

Given that between them they have about 30 appearances this season, it's hardly a problem. And think of the salary savings.

And in any event, why would we get rid of one of our exceptional talents to replace him with a lesser player? It's madness to even consider it.

Accounts-wise though, selling someone for £50m gives you the scope to add five £50m players on five year contracts and still be compliant.

Was about to say the same thing. They'd get nowhere near the amount we'd get for Luiz, but they also don't all need to be replaced. So it's wages off the books, and whatever money they do bring in possibly doesn't have to go straight back out.

It obviously depends on what the financial situation actually looks like. I would be pissed though if we sold Luiz and all of those above were still here at the start of next season.

We'd probably get kicked out of Europe though for not complying with UEFA's FFP!

I’m guessing you missed the first half of the season.

 :o

175 appearances for the club by the age of 25, where he played out of position for far to many of them. He’s been absolutely fantastic for us as we have risen from the ashes over the last 5 years. Unless he brushed you aside at a chip shop when asking for a selfie, I have no idea how a Villa supporter could not like someone with the importance and reputation of Douglas Luiz. Please enlighten me..?

Sometimes I wonder how much other football people watch. Granted, everyone's entitled to their opinion and all that. But I don't know - how can you watch the game in general and not notice how good Douglas Luiz was for at the very least half this season? Like, what more are you expecting?

Yes, in the way that getting a credit card with £250m limit allows you to spend £250m. You have to start paying it back. So next year you cant buy anyone at all. Nor the year after. Its not a sensible way to manage the FFP. Just ask Chelsea.
