Is Barkley a free agent?

Barkley or Zaniolo. I guess looked at like that.......

6-7 years difference in age though, and had similar impact during a season on loan with us.

I can't see Ramsey moving this summer, even if we do need to sell. He's had basically the entire season out more or less, with a recurring injury. Of course teams do buy players with injuries, but in this case I think anybody would want to be sure that the injury isn't long term. Absolutely no way he'd pass a medical as things stand.

All of which is good because I'd be gutted if he left. I'd rather sell Luiz if we absolutely had to.

It's a firm no to the idea of Barkley returning to Villa from me.

It's a gamble that we don't need to take for a player who has already shown his negative attitude the last time he was here. Granted he has had a decent season at Luton, but I cant remove his last stint at Villa from my memory.

I get the Emery factor, but it's still a firm no to the idea for me.

If it happens, then I will have to wait & see how he performs, but I wont be expecting much from him.

This can't be real surely. Barkley is one of the worst players I have ever seen put on a Villa shirt and I will be horrified to see him do it again, good season at Luton or not, on a free or not, home grown or not. I'll never forget that clip of him walking around the pitch aimlessly looking completely disinterested. We should be thanking our lucky stars we were able to send him back to Chelsea last time.

On the other hand, in tandem with Grealish he helped produce two of the best attacking performances I've ever seen.

Barkley's an interesting one. I'm surprised but I'm not totally against it. Could be a smart move.

Barkley's an odd one but if Unai thought he could get a tune out of Scott Hogan I wouldn't question it.

Barkley's made comments about the next 3 years being his peak years, so that suggests he appreciates that he's running out of time and wants to make the most of what he's got. The Luton version with Emery as manager and helping to take some of the load off others, and I can see the logic.

What luxury of time if Barkley is one of the worst Villa players you've ever seen. Just think of the absolute wretched dross you've been spared.

If we're bargain basement shopping we could do a lot worse.

Nobody can doubt Barkley’s ability. He has an elite level performer in him. Perhaps the penny has finally dropped because the slimline, motivated, fully fit Barkley I saw playing for Luton last season was a completely different beast to the one we had on loan. Well worth the gamble on a free transfer.

As soon as we have a couple of injuries or suspensions we look really light in midfield. He can do a job there. He appears to have grown up.

Not sure if that’s intended as a dig, but in terms of using our budget wisely for a squad player addition it makes all kind of sense. Won’t cost us much, he’s shown he’s reinvented himself and he’s clearly motivated. A good option for rotation and helps us keep the money we do have to focus in on high quality.

Don’t say that Risso…you’ll jinx it :-) I said the same the summer Grealish was sold ‘who would sign a player who has just had months out with shin splints’….3 days later he was gone :-)
