It seems fairly obvious that a fully fit first choice back 4/3/5 is what we've been missing, rather than needing to replace the entire group of players.

We undoubtedly need more depth in the squad, across multiple positions, but if the entire squad was fit all season we wouldn't have seen as much of Lenglet and Carlos, for starters.

I mean, in January there was talk of Barca recalling Lenglet because he was hardly playing. We'd have sold Digne in the summer if whatshisname hadn't got injured before we could sign him.

There's definitely room for improvement, but we're not having a crisis in defense.

Agree with that last part.  I think defence is an area where having a unit that consistently plays together is key really.  We've had to change things around in defence quite often this season and it's unsettled things a bit.

We've also badly missed Kamara in the defensive midfielder role just in front of the defence and is a position we simply must strengthen in this summer.

I expect Kalvin Phillips will be leaving man city this summer, he would do a job if the price was right, or maybe a loan deal.

Whilst he wouldn't be a very inspiring signing, especially given his form at West Ham, I do think there must be a decent player in there still if his confidence returned. As a loan with a younger player also signed it could work.

In the extended version of Dopesick they showed this. Folks getting off their nut on Oxy and then logging onto H&V to chat absolute wham about us signing fatty wasters. It's a crying shame.

I have had a stinking cold for a fortnight that has settled on my chest and wont go. Dropped half a stone in a week, so blame the fever!

But in any event I'm not suggesting it, just saying that I would expect to see a better version of him under Emery if we did, and that at times he has looked a good player.

There are plenty of better suggestions on the thread from foreign parts (at least they all look good when I google them).

I'd be a better player under Emery than I am now and you wouldn't want me on the pitch.

If it were a similar situation to Barkey and talk was to bring him in for the cost of his wages alone then I agree Emery might get a tune out of him.

But Man City will be looking for £20-30m for him, so I'm quite happy for any fixer-uppers we bring in to be more in the Barkley mould.

Kalvin Phillips? Really? He won't want to go somewhere else and sit in the bench, and that's precisely what he'd do for us. If he could get in front of Iroegbunam. That's how good he is.

Anyway, surely he'll go to ManU when Southgate joins...

Phillips is reportedly on either £150K a week or £165K a week depending which site you read. If he was on a tenth of that, then fair enough, but I'd suggest the full amount wouldn't be a brilliant use of >£8M a year.

Surely he'll go back to Leeds if they get promoted?

I used to think he was a really good player and was surprised how badly the West Ham loan went.
