Man Utd, Barcelona learn £60m would ‘close’ signing as ‘determined’ Ratcliffe eyes Prem star

According to reports, Manchester United are battling FC Barcelona in the race to sign England international Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.

Only £60m! Barcelona has no cash, and Man U is MAn U. I file this one in the bin.

So before the window already opwns we have spent 18.5m on archer. We gotta try sell him for that fee id possible.  Cant see many championship clubs being able to afford him.

Think sheff utd missed a trick in championship i think he will be one of the best strikers in that league. Burnley or luton should take a look at him

Unlikely there's any truth in that for multiple reasons but the fact Watkins signed a new contract not that long ago makes me question 60mil . Given the asking price for top class strikers, and the lack of a huge pool of them to choose from, I'd be surprised if we didn't have a release clause bigger than that, or, if no release clause, at least be demanding more than that.

We've not though have we. Sheff U didn't pay £18.5 up front. We will have simply paid a small fraction back of their initial down payment in real terms, so the rest will have been a glorified loan fee of 3-4m I would imagine.

He's not going anywhere for less than Grealish did.

Unai Emery: “When we finish the season completely on Sunday we are going to sit with the club — Monchi, Damian (Vidagany), myself, Wes Edens & we are going to take decisions. We haven't decided yet about each (player), whether they will be with us in the future or not.

Yeah but we wouldn't care if they dived for us, as long as they are decent then football fans forgive a lot. Like we did with Grealish, like we did with Young, like we would do with Kane. So many footballers do dark art shit that it's pointless making it a disqualifying factor.

I never completely forgave Young for diving against us when playing for Man U and getting a penalty. Didn't mind the diving, it was the betrayal.

I was there for that one. You have to just take it on the chin after you've been happy for him doing it for us for so long. He was never going to not take advantage just because it was against an old side, I wouldn't have expected him to. He definitely did do it much more for Man United though, probably felt he was more likely to get the decision.

Thought this was pretty telling too (in relation to transfers and the bit about managing FFP at the beginning):

“Financially, being in the Champions League is better than not. Our budget could be better. But we have to manage at the beginning the fair play for this season — then we can build. I think we can be intelligent & build a strong team to compete in the Champions League, Premier League & the cups..”

Not a chance is there going to be a £60m release clause.

It's click bait to keep their wanker plastic fans interested enough to not realise the club is rotten to the core...and they always fall for it.

I also do not understand why  this Ratcliffe bloke is the saviour, he bought a25% stake in a bank owned franchise yet all we hear is how he is calling the shots

Deluded pricks all of them. Would rather talk about football with a nose than one of them.

I'd think there'd be a list of players they'd be happy to offload, a list they want to keep at all costs, and a list of players that could be improved on but wouldn't be the worst thing if they stayed. And obviously a list of targets.

And they'll have to do some kind of juggling with figures to find a combination that works.

Depending on who we can bring in, I'd say Lenglet, Carlos, Cash, Digne, Chambers, Zaniolo, and possibly Duran, could all be off.

I do wonder if there was any truth in the Jacob Ramsey stories, and how much his injury and bad season has impacted on our summer plans.

'When we finish the season completely on Sunday we are going to sit with the club'

I think this is nothing more than a team talk for Crystal Palace game. Unai wants to win it and will not accept any messing about from any player. True pro.

All players have their moments with the dark arts of diving .  I hate it but less so when for us or maybe i don’t notice so much .  Hypocrite i guess

You’re not really being a hypocrite, mate.
The hypocrisy for me is when the pundits say
‘… he went down too easily, there was hardly any contact’ for some, and
‘… he felt contact so is entitled to go down’ for others.
