So now Felix is going to Chelsea (and this on loan somewhere else next summer!) who do we reckon we might go for as a 10?

Felix was never coming here. There are a number of reasons why that is the case (wages, club status compared to the likes of Chelsea, transfer fee) and Monchi and the team will have been working on realistic targets. A section of our fan base kept bringing Felix up for some reason but I'm pretty sure the club won't have been considering him as viable option.

By all reliable accounts we absolutely wanted him and tried to make it happen though they knew it was unlikely. So, you're talking total uninformed tosh.

Yeah, the 'for some reason' wasn't fans just plucking his name from thin air.

There was no bid ever made as far as I'm aware and so that doesn't strike me as seriously going after the player.

It was all just pure speculation based on Unai calling him special a year ago. Internet rumour and nothing solid at all.

Pretty much every reliable Villa reporter has said we wanted him as Emery's number 1 target. Percy, Tanswell, Townley and Romano have clearly said we want him. I don't think we have ever bid because I think unlike Chelsea, we have to stay inside the new European spending limit rules, so can't add his wage without probably Digne, Dendonker and Carlos going who would free up more than enough room then. Until they go, I think we will tied up with what we can do. Quite how Chelsea can add him and Osimen to their wage bill as rumoured is beyond my comprehension.

It will be interesting if they do something on the forward front now that Archer has gone, but I can’t see that his departure will free up a lot of wages budget.

So we wanted him but we couldn't afford him? Brings us back to what I suggested, that he was never likely to come here.

Either way, we need a new forward and I'm sure we are looking at more affordable options. Starting the season with what we have is one thing, but moving past the closing of the window with the squad as it is really doesn't feel like it will end well.

Funny the three on high wages in your post that we are trying to offload are all gerrard signings.

I said it when we first were signing players under gerrard that he is looking for a quick fix signings with poor re sale value. Players we will find hard to offload and behold the above three. Add coutinho and there we are.

Honestly what a disaster gerrard was

It’s true but q a lot of that is with hindsight. They were never signings for the future with resale value in mind but dignes been largely decent and Carlos has been ok (likely better if he hadn’t have had such a big injury). Dendonker was always a squad filler and Coutinho was an expensive vanity purchase. He also signed Kamara so some credit where it’s due.

Most of the speculation came from the Spanish press, looking to move him as Althetico don’t want him.

There may not have been a bid but Unai did mention him sometime last year saying something along the lines of it was a possibility but not at that moment so it wasn't Internet rumour.

Romano stated more than once that talks for felix had started and were ongoing, so a serious attempt was clearly made to get him

The Duran situation probably played a part. I don't think we were actively trying to get rid of him, but when it was a possibility it probably freed up money for something else. When it became clear that he was staying it changed things again, and we couldn't make the finances work.

You can be very active on Tinder, it doesn’t mean you’re going to get any.

Tried for Gallagher too but it didn't happen. The last few weeks of the transfer window are always crazy.
