It’s not a poor side at all, clearly, but I don’t think as a first eleven we’re a better side.

I agree in the sense that the season starts next weekend and we still have no idea how any of the new signings will do. I'm hopeful that still having the bulk of last year's 11 will be enough to get us through the first few weeks and some of the new signings will come good, fast.

In order to push for Europe I think we need a new RB, a new CB (and that's without Carlos leaving), a back up striker and a winger.

I doubt very much that we will see more than 1 or 2 more signings though, due to PSR.

Europe usually reaches 7th place.  We should be pushing for that with what we have.  I’m not saying that’s guaranteed but we are not four new players away from making a challenge.

Agree, I’d say that’s overstating it.

Maybe. But Ollie has had no pre season, Duran and Carlos are on their way out and we still haven't replaced Luiz or Diaby. I think we need several new players in order to compete.

It’s a long season. Ollie will be just fine. We won’t win or lose anything in the first game or even first few as evidenced by how we started last year. We have a solid squad, a top manager who is obsessed with success. He is using pre season to test and learn even if it wasn’t easy for us to watch. I would argue we do need a couple of top players who immediately start or at minimum close to it. Real difference makers. Someone to really link the midfield and forward line and another RB/CB type. And I fully expect over the season the new players and ones remaining from last year will continue to improve.

Yeah we definitely need one or two top quality starters to come in at the very least.

I still can't shake that feeling about not having a back up for Ollie though.

We are a bit short as things stand. Some need shifting and some of the signings (Barkley / Dobbin) are a little underwhelming. Few weeks left though so no panic.

Thw worry is that we didn't finish the season very well, have had a big turnover of players, and have endured a pretty poor pre-season. Overall we've got more players, but seem to be lacking a bit of quality. Two top quality players is going to be very hard to do.

Precisely where I'm at. Hoped getting to the promised land of the champions league wouldn't have led to such a disruptive summer. Squad depth is good but I feel we lack some of the quality in the team. Luiz was quality and so was Diaby.

Yeah but the problem is, what if Ollie isn't just fine?

That'd be a season ender.

If Duran goes we'll definitely bring in another striker. I'd bet my hat on it. If he stays, it'll be the same situation as last season, most likely with added Archer.

Ollie needs a break more than a pre-season, wouldn't worry with him. Ramsey and Rogers fully fit should be key players for us. Mings if gets back to his best returns to our defence and improves us. Buendia will be an improvement on Zaniolo at a minimum. Lots of positives there, not to mention likes of Philogene back. Bailey has had a nice break too and should crack on again.

My worry is midfield, it's the most critical area of the pitch and we are miles weaker than we were this time last season.

How are we miles weaker in midfield when we’ve only lost one player who as good as he could be wasn’t always a regular starter? For the loss of that one player we have added Barkley, Onana, Barrenachea, Iling Junior.  I would argue the loss of Kamara was greater but even he will be back before the seasons out

Definitely need another striker and right-footed centre back. We haven't replaced Diaby yet. The current squad is under-equipped especially for the Champions League.
