I'm all for giving Kosta a go at right-back, but I'm also acutely aware he'll probably get murdered by the fans the first time someone breaks the offside trap because he's not yet at the level required tactically to be a starter in a back four that has been as well-drilled as ours has.

A winger or forward who misses a chance, or loses the ball dribbling when they shouldn't, doesn't usually cost your team too much.  But one mistake in the back four and you lose a goal.

But he’s got the pace to get himself and others out of a mistake in the offside trap. I think he’ll be part of it.

I would say we are in need of two more first team players as basically we have swapped our best midfielder for another decent midfielder and we swapped dianthus for a player who was in our youth team last year.  Plus we have bought a number of promising youngsters to bulster are options.  But it’s hard to say we’re stronger than last season - and are still light in a couple of positions especially once we factor in the seemingly inevitable season injuries in the first couple of months.

A lot of the players seem to be ffp signings related to tunes played with the squad

Yep, it will take a while to get over losing dianthus.

Yes, he was a bloomin’ good player.

Really thought we'd see him blossom as a player this year.

Apologies even by my standards that’s pretty bad!  Pretty sure I meant Diaby

We have lost more than we have gained in the first team this summer. We have lost our pace in behind to stretch going forward, and lost the player we can play into safely from defence that can take the ball in tight spaces and help us find ways out of the press.

We will find different ways, but we are a playmaker and some pace short at the moment.

Yes as has been well trailed it feels like the squad is stronger but the first team is weaker. Now that might rebalance as the new players get up to speed, but does feel like we need a bit more quality.

Yup, I fear Onana and Youri are a bit of a way short of Duggie and Kamara, and that’s going to cost us

I know people want some (one?) of these players replaced but from last season's starting 11, we can still start....

Martinez

Cash
Konsa
Torres
Digne

McGinn
Bailey
Rogers

Watkins

Tielemans, not like for like with Dougie, but he did play a fair bit last season, so not a new player to bed in, and then Ramsey is back too. Not sure what way they'd line up, but we can still field a starting 11 without having to look at the new signings at all.

It’s not a poor side at all, clearly, but I don’t think as a first eleven we’re a better side.

I went to the Bilbao game and it was noticeable that we didn't have anyone willing/comfortable enough to come and take a pass from the keeper with his back to play on the 18 yard box in tight spaces even when being pressed, and then play out.  Unless it was an instruction to try and plat a different way for some reason.

We're going to miss Doug more than some people think.

Barkley has been signed because his stats at Luton suggest he could do exactly that. But, I remain to be convinced

I'm hoping Barronechea grows into that role.
