I don't like how quiet it's gone...
I've grown accustomed to us doing 99% of our transfer business right when the window opens, then either nothing for the rest of it, or maybe picking up the odd player from clubs who haven't got their shit sorted out as well as we have.

I rather like it.

Sure but that doesn't address the fact we have a gaping hole at centre half and in attack though

Birighton and WHAM interested in Mats Hummels according to Beeb - would he be worth a season or to (he is 35 now) to bring calm and CL experience to our back line if we shipped out Diego?  Or too old for the high line?

He seems to be a pretty disruptive influence.

And, fine player though he is/was, not sure he'd suit our high line.

We don't have gaping holes though, we have a couple of people in the squad in Carlos and Duran who don't quite fit the holes they're occupying as well as we'd like but that's not the same thing.

Rumours of Galatasaray wanting Lucas Digne on loan.

We can do a loan swap with Zaha

That is a joke by the way :-)

I'd go for this.

I should say the quietness is related to us being in the states. It was the same last year from memory. You noticed yesterday the first bits of movement since we came back with a couple of players loaned out again. There's no way we're not signing another forward even if Duran stays. Center back will depend on whether Carlos goes and there seems to be a conflict in the rumours with that one, some saying he wants out and is likely to leave and others suggesting Emery is happy and not likely to do anything there.

Didn't we sign club record signing at the time Diaby when we were in the US last summer

I doubt we will sign nother CB unless Carlos leaves.  The midfield feels pretty settled.  The final third is an issue if we don't feel that Archer is up to scratch.  Duran seems as if he is gone, mentally if not physically, and I'm not sure we will get 100% of his, already, mercurial talent.

Hard disagree I'm afraid, the defence for the most part was poor when carlos played, a couple of decent performances aside.
And the idea that duran can do anything more than play 10-15 minutes here and there, and that his attitude is right is fanciful.

Maybe we need to shift them before any incoming but the lack of quality and consistent back up or alternative to ollie is going to bite us on the arse eventually

We’re asking 40 million for a player that you say you can only play 10-15 minutes here and there

The Felix thing is a confusing conundrum
I think we can take it that Unai likes the player and wants to bring him to Villa, so you would have thought that if Felix didn’t really want to come we would have moved on by now
They must be getting some favourable feedback if we are still in the chase as reportedly we are

I imagine at that level there are a lot of moving parts that all need to align. His club look like they've got a replacement, so that's one, but then they need somebody prepared to pay the fee and wages, which is more of a struggle. I reckon we'd need to shift Duran and possibly Digne or Moreno to make sure we're not overloading wages again.

It's something like 28 or 29 players that are now pros that require a squad spot. That does include Mings, Kamara and Hause but we can't keep adding players until some leave.

Juventus are holding a press conference today to present Douglas Luiz to the world. They signed the midfielder from Aston Villa in quite a complicated deal, and it took a while for him to actually get there due to other commitments over the summer.

But, finally, today is the day Juventus have decided to make all about the Brazilian, and chatting to the media he’s said all the things his new fanbase will want to hear.

Tuttosport, Turin’s sport newspaper, quote the player as saying: “I had a very positive impression, Juventus is a huge club and many great players have passed through this team. This convinced me to come here. Any player would have wanted to have this opportunity. As soon as I heard about Juve’s proposal, I immediately expressed my interest to the agents and we worked to conclude everything positively. I was impressed by the size of the club and obviously also the stadium and the passion of the fans. I am very happy to be here, I think it will be a very important season, we will do everything and fight together to achieve great results.”

Pressed specifically on why he left Aston Villa, and therefore the Premier League, Luiz said: “I come from a championship that is probably considered the most difficult and I am very happy with this experience. In Serie A I want to do even more, I know what kind of player I am and I know my abilities, I have prepared myself for this moment and I feel ready. Why did I leave the Premier League? Any player in the world would have wanted to have an experience at Juventus, I am no different. It doesn’t depend so much on the championship, but rather on the size of the club. It’s a nice thing to be able to tell my family, once I retire, that I played for Juve.”
