We paid just under £36m upfront for Diaby with another £10m in add on's
If a Saudi club gives us 70m (euros) all upfront then think we take it

I always felt it was less than reported.

According to the PBSE note in the latest accounts, we spent £68m on incoming transfers, which only applies to Diaby and Torres. So if the reported £31m for Torres is about right and there aren't any add ons, then Vinnie's figures look in the right ballpark. We potentially owe about £60m in add ons by the way, which I'd love to know who they relate to!

Excellent info. Tanswell (Athleic) reckons £34m. Maybe Torres was a couple of million more? What’s that between friends?

Why was the reported Diaby fee (I recall seeing £50m - £55m) at the time so out of whack?

Yeah that’s the fee I remember too. Maybe that includes add ons and was euros or maybe it was just wrong… if it was only £30-£35m then that feels a bit of a steal to be honest.

So all those arguing he should be getting more than 19 goal contributions in his debut season thanks to his high fee are even wronger than they already were?

Nice!  ;D

I thought it was around £43m.

They’re often inflated. I remember talk of Ings costing way less than the £27m reported.

Anyway, if 23/24 proves to be Diaby’s only season, it cost us roughly £15m including amortisation and wages, he helped us get into the CL, and anything we get over £27m is profit.

The media always inflate transfer fees, it just makes headlines more appealing.

£65m for Diaby is top dollar really. I am more than sure we could replace him, probably with a couple of players with different attributes.

yep. I wouldn't want to lose him but if the price is right then we can do some good things with the money include offset some FFP needs.

great update Vinnie.....thanks

Is there anything in the Diaby story, do you know ?

Wouldn’t surprise me. He’s not one we’re actively trying to sell but if a huge offer comes (essentially double what we paid) then we’d listen/take it. Think he’s not overly settled and Emery/Monchi think we could replace with someone better suited to the system

Hi Vinnie, I really appreciate your intel but I’m not smart enough to decider when you’re expressing your opinion and when you’re divulging top secret ITK.  Any chance you can add suitable signposting for me?

If you could replace him with say a Somerville and a Baena to have more options you would have improved the squad though.

If we sold Diaby I would want immediate CL level quality not someone stepping up from the Championship to fill that role.
