Pretty sure he's going to be a great player, but I'm inclined to agree only because every striker flops at West Ham and always will.

I think I am probably in the minority, but I don't think he has the technical ability to become a "great" player.

Strength, pace, energy & a thunder-bastard of a left foot, granted, all in his game.

And that might be enough for a club like West Ham, Palace, Brentford, etc.

But for where Villa are & want to be, I don't think he has it in him.

And I am 99% sure he doesn't become anything other than a journey-man striker if he moves to the bright lights of the capital...

Reports that the Coutinho deal could be done and dusted today.

Surprise, surprise, they couldn't agree a financial deal to make it permanent, so it's a 12 month loan.

Yeah, I mean who knows, but my instinct is that the ball doesn't love him enough.

I'd have played him ahead of Diaby in a fair number of games last season. He could have been real competition for him.

I'm afraid that's the wrong answer

At West Ham.

Yeah, those are my thoughts.  Seems keen to move to London, presumably for non-footballing reasons.

Conversely, I think he could be brilliant if managed properly and if he keeps his head down and doesn't play up. I'm not sure it's going to happen at Villa, though, so a departure could be best for all parties so long as we get proper money, no Tottenham 85 pence and some reserve we are desperate to shift type rubbish.

I agree with those who aren't sure he's as good as he thinks he is. He scored some great goals for us, but I'd still have my doubts about him being a 90 minute player, or pulling his weight week in week out when we hit a bad patch.

Probably West Ham is the ideal place for him to prove me wrong. As others have said, he shouldn't have too much competition for a starting place there, and he'll sink or swim pretty quickly.

Would snap anyones hand off for £35m for Duran, suspect London will not do him any favours attitude wise, too many bright lights and distractions.

Good luck to him though

Be interesting who replaces him - guessing it won’t be young Cam though

He's still only 20 and is a cracking prospect, i'd love him to stay. I think it's up to him how far he goes as the talent is there, just depends if the professionalism is.

And that right there is the key point. Does he have the mental strength to see his talent through.

I remember thinking about Nathan Delfouneso in ways that many have spoken about Duran.

At 17/18, he had a cracking goals to minutes ratio & he had everything at his disposal. Pace, strength, height, two footed, excellent on the ball, etc, etc. He had everything in his locker other than the one thing needed to succeed. The mental strength to realise that he hadn't "made it" yet.

My mates son knew him & apparently, he was a bit of an arrogant arsehole. My mates lad says that Delfouneso thought he had made it. He quite clearly hadn't.

Such a shame as he had everything to his game...

Sorry, bit of a tangent there. This has nothing to do with Duran, the conversation just reminded me of Delfouneso...
