🟣🔵 After Enzo Barrenechea, Samuel Iling Jr has also completed all medical tests as new Aston Villa player.

It’s all approved for Maatsen (contract already signed), Iling Jr and Barrenechea to join Villa — confirmed.

Some really fantastic business there ans we have spent very little in all those deals

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen for £35m.

Maatsen, 22, spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and helped the Bundesliga club to reach the Champions League final.

Think we’re definitely going to be stronger before all the ACLs rock up the season starts.

⚫️⚪️💢 Philippe Coutinho has agreed on terms to return to Vasco da Gama, the contract is almost ready.

Final detail needed: contract termination with Aston Villa, as
@geglobo
 reported.

Villa are prepared to give Coutinho the green light to leave soon.

Assuming we will wait until July 1st to book that one… a very expensive hangover.

I don’t think this will be the season for the perennial transfer moaners (me) saying why are we not making many signings  and it’s all to slow after bringing in 2 on first day and then goes dead

Yes it appears this is to be the window where Unai and Monchi put their stamp on the squad. The fact we have a guaranteed 8 Champs League games to play makes it essential.

Exciting times, it’ll be a very different looking squad come end of August.

Hopefully Phil has been good about not wanting rest of his contract fully paid-up.

I don't mind if he has. What I don't like is when players sit on the bench, or in the stands, not trying (or caring) and still picking up a hefty wage.  If the club has decided they don't want a player, and they've been no trouble, then I have no problem with them asking for what we contractually agreed with them.  It would be nice if he DID wave some of his contract, but I won't hold it against him if he doesn't.

Tim out for 9m, Kellyman for 19m, Coutinho released - outs. Luiz pending.

Maatsen and Dobbin in.

Barkley, Barrenechea and Illing-Junior pending.

Really hoping for one of Guendouzi, Onana or Gallagher to come in too.

Depth is slightly improved so far in some areas, but there are still gaping holes.

Backup keeper is a worry. Olsen conceded 4+ per game last season, he just creates panic.

Right back - if Cash stays then I guess less of an issue, but still a questionable area of whether good enough there.

Centre half - we have 4, but huge questions over Carlos and Mings - we need a dominant centre back for me

Central midfield - probably ok to wait now and see if anything comes up - we have Barkley, Barronechea, McGinn, Youri and Kamara. Ideally replace Dougie with similar quality if something comes up.

Wide forwards / 10 role - probably have enough with Bailey, Diaby, Rogers, Iling Junior, Dobbin, Buendia

Striker - Watkins, Duran

I suspect the Dougie replacement may well be a more attacking central midfielder in the Baena mould rather than a like for like. Interesting how the squad looks in 6 weeks though.

I’d guess the opposite the Luiz replacement will be a DCM to replace Kamara.

There’s the short term need and I just have a hunch he could be the big sale next summer, so some succession planning too.

I’ve wanted Guendouzi for ages but I have a feeling he’s going to be that one player that never was.
