So the rumours are looking like Douglas and Cash out, Iling-Jr, McKennie and Dumfries in? Brings the height and physicality up.

With the rumours now building about Duran too I think this is just something we need to get used to. At the top end of football there has always been a merry-go-round of good players, moving from one big club to another. This guarantees big payouts for them and their agents.

What is also happening is Unai is developing his squad and I’ve no doubt he know who and what he needs.

While I understand and sympathise with Nas’ frustration, I tend to think of it (cashing in) as a reset. We used the £57m proceeds from selling VP and our increased TV income to get into and stay in the PL. Then we invested heavily again on Ollie, Emi, Cash. That couldn’t continue without cashing in on Joe. We then used that money as a bridge to our current success. In each phase we have bought our way to increased revenue. We’d probably be fine if we’d gone from Deano straight to Unai, but the Gerrard mistake has put us under financial pressure to the extent that we need another phase of cashing in and rebuilding to a new level of trying to stay in the Champions League.

I think the reality is that until our commercial revenue (if ever) reaches a pout where we can be sustainable, doing deals like Duran where we pick a player up relatively cheaply andake a big profit have to happen to keep us moving forward. I would be amazed if Illing Junior is not being looked at in that light, or indeed if we don't sign a couple more young, talented players that we can potentially use for FFP 18 months or so down the line. It is the reality for us and part of what Emery was talking about in being clever in the market to allow us to build.

It has to be part of the plan Ozzjim, as frustrating as it is for the fans.

The manager has earned our trust. Monchi needs to do the same as he is a vital part of the strategy.

Agreed. We also need to start identifying and bringing through a couple of academy players each season that can look sparkly enough to do what Chelsea and Man City have, essentially keeping them well above the FFP rules. We have done well with Archer, Chucky, Grealish etc, we need to be identifying the next ones.

I think that has been the intention since NSWE arrived hence the investment in bringing in a lot of academy players from elsewhere (Smethwick & Scotland mainly lol) none of them are ready to generate a fee yet tho, Tim & maybe Sinisalo aside.

Such a shame that due to PSR rules, that we have to sell Dougie - hopefully we will get in an good replacement for him.

This is a good point, very well made.

If the fees are right & the transfers happen, we'll get another Joe-type influx of cash (~€100m from Dougie, Cash, and Duran). That feels to me more like we're gearing up to spend big than trying to plug a FFP hole.

Dougie wants to leave, Dhuran wants the bright lights of London, Cash is most likely being upgraded. Selling those three, plus probably Carlos for £100M+ makes sense to me.

This is the true value of a top class manager like Unai, he improves players, so they become or at least remain a saleable asset.
It is all part of the long term plan to build a stronger squad.
I honestly though Doug was off to Arsenal a few years ago, so i'm pleased he is not going to a rival, another positive.

I think you are about right there….disappointing to lose Dougie, if it had been when he was flying earlier in the season would have been seen as a disaster but his form did tail off alongside his discipline the last couple of months so you can see there is scope for Unai to replace him and it doesn’t feel sooo gutting.

Beginning to feel like a summer of lots of changes - very exciting to see how the squad looks when the window closes

The Graun article about Duran is weird. It says Gallagher doesn't want to come here if it's part of a swap deal. What difference does it make to him if it's a swap/part exchange or not? I'm sure he'll still get a nice signing on fee etc.

Does Doug want to leave? Genuine question, I may have missed where it was stated…
