Quite a lot of the squad weren't away with their countries this summer so there should be a few involved in pre-season from the start.

And obviously McGinn has had a decent break by now...

Ah! He'll have been walking in the footsteps of Joyce, having a read of Finnegan's Wake and perusing a biography of Collins and/or De Valera.

He'll have to come back early to be de-Scotlandified, we cannot risk any toxification carrying into next season.

I can imagine Emery’s look of disgust when he finds shortbread crumbs all over the gym.

“I’m in a week early now and staying on top of things. I’m looking forward to meeting everybody when they return.”

Taken from Ross Barkley's interview on the OS so it looks like it is next Monday when those that haven't been on international duty are expected back.

I take that as a sign that he realises what an opportunity this is for him.

Apparently he missed pre-season last season and it took him a while to get going. I do think he's in a much headspace than he was first time around.

Interesting to read that Barkley has completed at least 30 games in each of the last 6 seasons.  He's fit now and will be a real help for Villa.  I hope we have at least one more pressing midfielder coming in but Barkley is a classy player.  Showing his commitment already by coming in early.

I mentioned it before, but with the current state of our midfield, ie. sold, brand new, injured, coming back from injury, getting extra time off.... Barkley will have some opportunity early on to get some game time in pre season, and put himself into the conversation for starting places. Coming in a week early is a good start.

I was watching the England game the other day and thought to myself "last season's Ross Barkley should be in that number 8 position". Then remembered he was soon to be Villa's Ross Barkley.

Can't be a bad thing.

Doesn't sound right that. According to Wiki he played in 24 games in 2022/3 for Nice, 14 in 2021/22 for Chelsea, 27 for us and Chelsea in 20/21. Last year with Luton was the first time he's passed 30 games in 4 years.
