This is what Kim, the manageress, wrote:
"As of today we are closing the pub/restaurant.  Despite a slight up turn in business and our numbers on match days, it's not viable any more so the powers that be have made the decision to close".
She was employed by the Red Pub company, who took on the lease of the Barton's after the Thai owners departed. I don't know whether Oakham still own the building. It's Grade II listed, so it won't be knocked down. We can only hope that new owners/landlords will be found

It's Grade II listed, so it won't be knocked down.

You'd guess energy costs for it would be massive.

It needs a state of the art sprinkler system before the totally unforeseen, completely accidental and unavoidable fire occurs.

It's perfect for a Desi pub but I doubt the Bish would be ordering up grilled spicy meat anytime soon.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. The overheads must have been enormous and apart from matchdays it was virtually empty.
