Something something...correlation, causation ...something something. Nobody takes player ratings as seriously as good old Perce.

The main summer transfer window saw us sell Ramsey and fuck up the team morale for a month or so, along with the Martinez palaver. Get Elliot in and play him 7 times. Get the most expensive purchase in and loan him out after 6 months. And two backup freebies who were the best ones.

The winter one saw us sell Malen who scored 15 goals after leaving and replace him with someone who played 400 mins, get in Allysson who is perenially "injured", get in a player we can't even register yet, and bring back Doug who did a small job but was dropped as soon as possible.

The only good things coming out of last years windows might well have been that we stayed compliant with SCR/PSR etc enough that we don't have to worry about it much this season so long term it probably was a "good" one. However from a playing point of view, you can't help feeling we achieved a trophy and CL qualification despite the window and also wonder what we might have done if it had been "better".

That is an excellent summary!

Nobody takes yours seriously. Quite the opposite. You’re H&Vs Eddie Mush from A Bronx Tale. Whatever you do, in all seriousness, stay away from the gambling apps.

It makes me wonder if we might have finished third and won 4-0 in the Europa League final.

Or not had a run of 5 wins in 18 league games.

Maybe we should put an asterisk next to the EL win on the honours board.

If only we’d had a good window like West Ham or Liverpool in recent times, or us in 2016.

I’m very much in the “it’s results on the pitch that count” camp. However, clubs only get two opportunities each season (let’s call them windows) to improve the squad. For lots of reasons (mainly PSR) we struggled last summer. I hope we do better this time around.

Either way, I’d take a repeat of last season. Top 4 and a shiny pot.

I think like most things it’s a balance. We did well to retain key players, which was critical. But at the same time, in terms of weighting, the bulk of the money we did spend (Guessand, Elliott, and Sancho) offered little to no value.

Yeah, wish we’d have had a good window like West Ham or Liverpool in recent times, or us in 2016.

I wish we hadn't wasted the best part of 50m, but wishes are just dreams.

Yet you keep mentioning them...and please for the love of mcgrath tone down those excruciating mobland references. Its lovely you have a special interest and all but every second post has a god awful reference to some shite movie or tv show.

Yes, balance. 2/5 good contributors, 3/5 not so much, but keeping the bulk of the squad together through the transfer window, which sometimes involves selling players, proved crucial to our success

Or not had a run of 5 wins in 18 league games.

Or a start of 0 wins and 0 goals in the first five.
