They wanted Beckham gone so he doesn't count.
Yep. Fergie tried to flog him to Barca first.

We were always going to sell him this summer in order to be able to get in some quality players. It's great business and we can look forward to some more decent incomings. Rogers may do great things at Chelsea but fuck him now.

Everything will be fine. Keep your shit together.

There is a scenario where we can hopefully reinvest this money and strengthen.  There is also.a senario where we lose a number of our starting XI and don't replace them with like-for-like quality and we saw what happened there when Barry, Young, Downing and Milner all left and weren't properly replaced.

I remember having a conversation with some felliw Villa fans in the airport on the way home from Istanbul about that achievement feeling like it could either be the start of something or it was the pinnacle and signalled the end of something.

It's a lot of money to pay to keep Palmer company.

Will Rogers have to change his super duper goal celebration?

Little bit surprised we did not see a bit jiggery pokery and a Chelsea player coming the other way and the total package being closer to the 140m we wanted

Who would we want that they won't let go? I am surprised both Tielemans and Rogers are gone. I hope it doesn't affect Unai's will as much as anything. To still lose players to Chelsea when we have Champions League and they don't shows the level of bullshit we have to overcome.

Rogers isn't perfect but he has been critical to our structure over the last two seasons. It is a huge blow. That said our best, most freewheeling year under Unai was his first 12 months in charge and Morgzzzz wasn't here then.

If we use the dosh to buy more goals from other areas so we can start spreading the load then we can improve. Mbaye and Rashford would do. Forest will surely want equally daft money for Gibbs-White now and who can blame them?

When Rogers runs he looks like Platt, more comparisons may follow post Villa.
As for the recent departures generally, it feels more like a Gray/Gidman moment than a Yorke moment.
Onward and upward.

As Morgan never agitated for a move as far as we know, this feels all about the money and strictly in the interests of Aston Villa, especially as he has a given up a season of Champions League football to play for that shower of shit….

He won’t be getting champions league anytime soon, next time Chelsea qualify for a Europe comp they are likely getting banned. They’ve not stuck to their uefa fine/agreement at all

You only have to look at the Newcastle situation - the protracted Isak fallout last Summer kind of created a domino effect. They had a terrible season finishing in a lowly 12th place and out of Europe. Recently, Tonali and Gordon have gone with possibly Guimaraes to follow.
Hopefully UE can work his magic and avoid a similar scenario.

It will be interesting to see how the Chelsea faithful react to his periods of poor form and prolificacy with the ball.
It does confirm the strategy of, if an offer meets our valuation and the player wants to go, they go.
Also the timing allows us to strengthen the squad, let’s hope we use the money better than the Greasy cash.

The breaking-up of the 1977 team is always considered the correct thing to have done because of what eventually happened with Saunders' next team.  However, much of that opinion was formed retrospectively.  As late as 1979-80, there was much agitation when Gray was scoring a winning goal in a League Cup final for Wolves and we were also finishing below them in the league and losing an FA Cup quarter-final to second-tier opposition.

Having said that, I'm confident that with Emery at the helm, we'll be alright.  Many of the clubs we've been competing with in recent seasons are going into the next one with a new manager, and that can be more destabilising than a turnover of players under someone as good as Unai.
